How to buy a blythe doll by Bex Ilsley

"I pre-ordered her tonight, she won't be here for a few weeks but i'm so excited!"

How I did it: I've waited 6 weeks for payday and it finally came, so I was able to afford a Blythe! I just pre-ordered her on ebay. She's released in March so it won't be too long to wait. She has a space on my shelves already planned, she's going to be friends with my Lapin and Kumano Gollo.

Lessons & tips: I think the most important thing to do before you buy a Blythe is to research! I've spent ages reading up about Blythe, and comparing many pictures of many different dolls. I've looked through a lot of customs on Flickr and,after chopping and changing a few times on which one I was going to get, I've pre-ordered a Prima Dolly Adorable Aubrey, based on the fact that she was the cheapest 12" Blythe on ebay at the time (only £55! I was so happy with that), and she's an RBL with fair skin - both of these things were what I wanted. I've got a nice long black wig on the way for her (I wanted a doll with black hair, but the existing Blythes with black hair were so expensive, eventually I hope to rit dye her, but until i have the confidence, a wig will have do!) I've also got her some nice boots and a dress from Etsy. Hopefully it will all look lovely on her when she arrives.

You should definitely take your time to decide exactly how you want her to look, and its so much fun to buy or make new clothes and hair for her so that you know she's one of a kind.

How I did it: I bought a copy of a Blythe doll and am glad I only spent $15 on it. As cute as they are and as much as I admire those who are Blythe obsessed it really wasn't my thing.I'd much rather make my own clothes, rather than fiddle around with Blythe's!In the end I was able to pass the doll on to an ex-colleague's daughter who quite happily punked up the doll.     I bought a Hello Harvest and think it was a good choice for my first Blythe. I researched a TON about what type of doll I wanted and must have looked at thousands of pictures. I had several favorites so it was hard to decide, but it came down to a comparisson of prices, versatility of the doll, and of course the clothes she came with :) It ended up costing around $150 all said and done. Although I’d never admit to non-Blythe people how much she cost, I think she’s worth every penny and I plan to buy more when I have more “play money”

    I bought my very first Blythe doll Violettina.
    I’m still eagerly awaiting her arrival. I purchased her accidentally while trying to calulate shipping; my account is now in OD. It’s not worth the stress, so I say save for the Blythe you want! I also joined the forums on thisisblythe.com
    It’s a great place to meet Blythe fans.

    I should be saving money right now, considering I got told today my contract at work is finished on March 7th. I’m hoping it’ll get extended after that, as long as I keep working hard and being nice. Still, I should be saving for the future, anything could happen in this bad economy. I should at least try to concentrate on all the other expensive things I want (Sailor Moon Art book 3 primarily) but I really, really want a Blythe doll! So much! I’ve got my eye on the ‘Bow Wow Trad’ doll. She’s beautiful, I love her dark hair and her fun glasses. I think I like her because she’s the one who reminds me the most of me. I hope thats not too vain of me. She’ll look so lovely on my new shelves. I get paid on February 26th… so we’ll see! :)
