Copperfield be done. The gleeful wickedness of Oliver Twist be next. It is a’ rollin’.

Ackroyd’s Dickens or Oliver Twist?
Bleak House and Little Dorrit are done. Doing Copperfield now. I think Hard Times will be next. The more I read him, the more I’m hooked, such a sucker for all of it: heart, rage, invective, soap opera, acid baths, and sap. Chesterton is a crock with all his Dickens prancing.
CD is not, I repeat NOT, high school reading: what a way to ruin him for kids. Save him, relish him, for the later years, when we’re as wonderfully sappy as he is. Besides, what high school kid has time to read 800 page novels?
