Definitely worth doing – but with all the pre-party chores, food prep, clean up and home renovation project-finishing it was very exhausting!

Be sure to build your menu around ease of preparation. The more you can do ahead, the more time you’ll have to enjoy your own cocktail party…

They came, they cuccumbered, they went! 16 months ago

    Such a success!

It was a hang out, a dress up party, a shrimp ring was involved and everyone loved my cuccumber fizz cocktail.

    :)

    Will do this one again!

I had posted an event for the cocktail party i was planning to have (tomorow) and then changed the date to the next best (later less chaotic day) and promptly found out that half of my friends would be at an aquiantences wedding on the NEW day, so now, i’m helping to host a pot luck in the park called the ‘anti-postponement park pot-luck’ AND a cocktail party NEXT sataurday TOO!

And tomorow i have a drivers test.

    Yipes.

I’m making a camping ‘bladder’ full of liquid sangria and bringing frozen fruit to cool it down with tonite…
and i’m thinking about maybe making the ‘HENDRICKS GIN CUCUMBER MULE’ my signature drink for next sataurday, with beer and non-alcoholic orange-banana-margarita’s.
    ?
    still deciding.

Not dinner, BRUNCH! 18 months ago

I’ve had a couple ‘brunches’ in the past years here in toronto and i find it a satisfying low key thing to do.. mayhaps i’ll have to host an outdoor high park bbq pit brunch… look into that one. But i’ve got a ton of clothes and stuff to get rid of, so a brunch seems like the absolute non-commital way to have people over.

I need to pick a date, (i’m thinking maybe the last weekend of june) to make that happen.

    I like sundays.

Group dinner on a monday! 22 months ago

Everyone is convening… my friend maegs from New Bruinswick and Sarah and Brett from B.C. are in town, there is an engagement party on the sataurdy for our freinds shilo and mike, and i’ve run into about 8 people from a few years ago.. mostly people from school.

I think the best way to get us all together is to pick a spot on queen street… a restaurant and plan a dinner party… book it, and just invite everyone!

Now, WHERE? should we do this?

BEFORE THE SUMMER! 2 years ago

I have a tiny apartment so a big party is kind of out. Its cool to have people over though for an intimate dinner. A chance to really talk to some of my favourite people. I think i’m going to do a couple before i move out of town. Maybe even a ‘social-mixer’ with some girlfreinds that don’t know each other…

I’m working on my music mix right now!

But i dont dare make up invites until at least the end of january. I’ve got too much christmas stuff going on.

Where am I? 2 years ago

At this point, I’m too lazy to host a cocktail party. I’d be much happier being served cocktails. I’m keeping it on my list though. One day I’ll have a patio and I’ll definitely re-open this one.

A "housecooling" party 3 years ago

I’ve been talking about having a housewarming party for two years now: All the way through my last residence, and most of the way through this one. It never happened.

Tonight, I went the other way and had a “housecooling” party. Instead of expecting people to bring me things for the house, I talked to people about pieces of my furniture that they might want for themselves.

The cheese (a couple varieties of goat cheese, plus an irish cow’s milk cheese) was a hit, as was the prosciutto. The favored tipples of the evening were the kir simple and various preparations of bourbon.

I’m sad that it took so long, but I’m glad that it did at last come to pass, and I will do it again.
