I was standing in the woods
for a few hours.
I saw a Pileated Woodpecker
which was ripping a tree into
little chunks of wood but
no hummingbirds.
Tomorrow I will wrap some
day-glo orange flagging
tape around my head and
try calling one.

Every once and a while if the timing is right I will see a hummer feeding on my flowers. What a joy to see them, they are so amazing. Last week my son and I were sitting out on my patio when all of a sudden the hummer appeared. My son was just as happy as I was to see it!!The lantanas still blooming and that is what attracts them.

I went easy this year on flowers on my patio. I have two hanging baskets, one on each side of the patio, one flower is called lantana. Lantanas are unusual and beautiful and can attract hummers. I hope this will work, but so far I haven’t seen one hummer!

Hummingbirds are amazing. I used to have a feeder on the porch of my house in Southern Illinois (see photo). I can’t seem to attract them here though. I have seen them flitter by but they aren’t attracted enough to stay. If Rad and I ever get married, I know we will have a home with a yard and then I will grow flowers that they are attracted to along with a butterfly bush.
