My father is retiring very modestly. A few years ago he “put a bug in my ear” and told me to start saving seriously for retirement, and I have.
My mother will likely retire poor.
My wife’s grandparents are having a wonderful retirement with lots of travel in America and Europe, and they apparently achieved this on the savings of a single income.
I hope to retire like my wife’s grandparents, so I’m putting everything I can into my 401k and a Roth IRA.

Retiring well off is the only way I know of to get time to do everything else.

After working for forty years I still have a long way to go achieve the two million everyone seems to think is what you need to retire “comfortable”.
The books out there make it so sound so easy. I think they make more money from book sales than “reality”.

As the book says: I’ve been rich, I’ve been poor, rich is better.
