Serafina Longarina is an extraordinary machine.
He was one of the honorary degree recipients at Commencement this year, and while the band was waiting for the procession to end, he came zipping around the corner in a golf cart. To our great surprise, Ruth (the president of the university) came running after him calling, “Stop! We have to get a picture of the band with B.B. King!” So, somewhat in disbelief, we ran over to crowd around and take the picture. Afterwards I shook his hand as he smiled and said, “Thank you. The band sounded really good!”

Amazing woman. First saw her in the Great Gatsby, was indifferent, then heard about her work as a UNICEF ambassador and ended up meeting her at a Darfur conference. She’s done so much good and is a complete sweetheart – very tiny and softspoken. I was really nervous and probably sounded like a fool, but she was really nice anyway. It was very surreal to be shaking hands with someone I’d seen in a movie….
He played minor league baseball for our team in the ‘70’s and I met him when he came to a premier of one of his Disney movies at the local theater.
He was stumping with our governor. It’s cool to be able to say I did it, but lots of things on my list were actually more exciting to do.
I shook hands with Dr. David M. Armstrong, the famous philosopher.
Okay, maybe you guys haven’t heard of him, but he’s an important guy, and right smart too.
