I slept on the floor in the Amazon rainforest on a big sheet a few years ago at the grand ol’ age of 15 and the sheer volume of insects was such that they made a rediculous amount of noise, and so for the first night I couldn’t sleep! Which in a way was nice because just listening to the forest was the most incredible experience…

unfortunately the ‘sounds’ of the rainforest are not the only things you wake up to. There are also the mosquitos and other bugs, the phenomenon of tropical weather bringing on your period early and extra heavy, and the psychopathic tour guide, standing above your hammock :S
i lived in the southern zone of costa rica for a year, last year. every morning the jungle would wake up with the sun. all around our house were the noises of the howler monkeys, bugs, and birds. this is something i would recommend someone experience at least one morning of their life. its fabulous!
I did this last summer…a friend and I slept in the rainforest and then got up very early the next morning to do a canopy walk. It was fun, although I wouldn’t do it every night; we were sleeping on wooden platforms with mosquito nets covering them (it’s not very clear in the picture). I loved listening to the sounds of the rainforest – the insects sounded like a little symphony orchestra! And every so often I’d hear a monkey moving through the trees. Remember the first few episodes of “Lost”? The monster crashing through the jungle? Irrational, but that’s all I could think of at the time! Still, I wouldn’t mind doing this again.
