The law firm I work for has been trying to get a national day off the ground for a while now. America’s graying; we need to turn our attention to nursing homes.
My great-grandmother just went from assisted living to a nursing home two months ago. While she is not completely lucid, she appreciates visits from the family. But so do other people.
My greatest concern is for those residents without family to visit them. It could be me one day. Without a strong presence of outsiders, the isolation of a home can be too much—and there’s the threat of neglect and staff abuse, including sexual abuse.
