I read the entire Old Testament…and stopped. What’s up with that?! I believe that reading this divinely written tome is an integral part of my foundation as a Christian. It’s time…a few pages each night before falling asleep…

I am going to achieve this!
I am an atheist but I want to know more about the Bible, plus I have a friend who is a committed and practiscing Christian and I want to be able to talk with them on the same level about th Bible and Christian beliefs.

In January I started reading the Bible through. I do it online, using Bible Study Tools and a program to accomplish this in a year. So far, I’ve not missed a day, and will have completed the process on January 9, 2009. This has been enlightening, and has strengthened my faith.

I suppose it’s wrong of me to debate the Bible without actually reading it =/ ....grimace
I’ve read the first page and put the book down so many, many times.

is reading "The Master and Margarita"
I’m ahead of schedule now and am about to start Chronicles. I think this will probably be the most tedious and challenging book since it is primarily (as the name suggests) lists. Finding this much easier than I thought I would though!

As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t. Very, very much makasalanan and it would feel so wrong to just read the bible and then commit more sins. FCUK. I really can’t right now. :|

Slow progress
I finished the New Testament straight through. I am now plodding through the Old Testament and man it is so much more difficult to read. To prevent myself from getting bored, I have skipped around quite a bit, just kind of here and there a book at a time. I am now struggling through Ezekiel. Part of the problem may be the King James Version itself. Slow but steady progress nevertheless.

This is namely important for my personal growth as a Christian. Secondly, the influence of the Bible on Western civilization cannot be overstated.

there are so many better books to read, that could tell me so much more about truth and life. I would highly recommend reading parts of the bible and being familiar with the whole thing, but sitting down and trudging through every single law in Leviticus isn’t a good use of time.
So I got a decent amount out of it, but I’d have gotten more out of reading something else.
Maybe if I were Christian I’d feel differently.
