I can’t do one yet, but I’m pretty good at regular ones, I can do a max of 60 in one set.
How to do a one-handed push-up
How I did it: I started taking the hundred push-up challenge (hundredpushups.com) about four weeks ago. I'm now doing a little over 100 push-ups every other night. Tonight I decided to try if I could do a one handed push-up and low and behold I could. They are still very difficult, but now I should be able to work on increasing the sets.
People doing this are also doing these things:

I tried it tonight and was able to do 3 one arm push-ups with each arm. No way I could have done this before I started the 100 pushup challenge though… I’m going to mark this as done and add a set number goal for one handed push-ups next.

Okay. After months of having this on my # Things list, I have really yet to do anything towards it and the other day I read an article, or maybe just a tip, about how you should start doing push-ups on the stairs. Once you get strength you gradually move down stairs to hold more of your own weight…so I started on the tallest step today.
I don’t know if I want to learn my right or left, so I tried it a few times on both. I managed 4 on my left and two on my right. Maybe this is progress? Ay.
need to get better upper body strength to enter the airforce. so eventually when i do. i want to do a one handed push up lol, just to prove my ‘strong’ guy mates wrong haha

Did I mention that I really can’t do a two-handed push up with proper form. I mean, I can do ‘em but they’re not pretty. I don’t think it’s a problem with strength, more just a problem of focus but then again, I might be kidding myself.
Next action: Do a dozen, 2-handed push-ups with good form and concentration.
I can finally do them! I can only do it with my left hand, but I’m working on my right! The hard part is keeping your body straight rather then letting your back bend as you lift up your top-half while your bottom-half is stil on the floor!
I can do about 7 one-handed push-ups on each hand max. It seems that doing one-handed and two-handed push-ups are not directly related in terms of ability. My max for two-handed is 63, and I’ve know women who could do only 40, but could do more one-handed pushups.
As for progressing beyond 30 two-handed pushups, 4 sets of 25 is simply not enough. I zoomed from 20 to 40 by doing 6 sets at the very least, even if I could only do 5. I would stop when I couldn’t do at least one on my knees.
Proper nutrition is also important, because unhealthy food will make you lazy and give you the “jitters” (which destroys your focus, and makes you want to eat even more). Make sure you get lots and lots of protein and water on days when you work out.
I also don’t agree with starting off on your knees. Personally, I find that it kills your motivation. I only do pushups on my knees near the end.
alright so i read how to do it with the balance thing that i tried to factor in and did it first (right and left hand) try now im not gonna lie to you it was kinda hard on my right hand, but much easier on my left..thing is im right handed so i dont know but its prolly easier for me because i dont weigh so much and can lift much more
IT is impossible to do if you don’t do it correctly. I never could do one though, I was in great shape, untile one of my friends showed me how. First get into the normal push-up possition. Then spread your legs as wide as possible and practical. Now while still in the up position put one hand behind your back. Before you atempt the push up remember to make sure you keep your body level by using your legs, mostly the leg opposite the arm your doing the push-up with, will do the most work. Now while doing the push-up you will find that you are unballanced, it makes it alot easier if you lean on and twist your body weight onto the are doing the push up all the while makeing sure you counter ass much of the weight onto the your legs. Most importantly use your legs to balance not your arms. TIM SPAULDING
