become a social worker

I know the press is all very negative about social workers but I believe this is such a worthwile job that I want to more actively pursue this career path. I have already signed up with the open university to do the first module of a BA in Social Care because I can do this and continue in my job, however as soon as this is finished I will need to find a employer who will sponsor me to complete my degree

This fall (09) I will begin taking my first two core social work classes :)

I am so over my current job and I have been thinking about this for a while – the variety of the work and the fact that it will assist with my other goal of live overseas. Ideally I want to work in the adoption/foster care field or the health care setting.

I’m currently 16 and I want to achieve this goal by the time i’m 21/22

2 weeks left of internship. Termination is fraught with emotion in some cases, none in others… but I’m going to really miss a bunch of CLP/milieu people most I think. Then a month to crank out my thesis, 10 weeks of class (Crisis Intervention, CBT, HIV/AIDS policy, Violence, Anthropological Perspective on SW, REligion and Spirituality, Couples Therapy) and I’m all done and ready to start studying for the LCSW. Graduation August 14th.

i am getting overwhelmed a bit looking at all the online programs, i dont know which one to choose. it is important to me to make sure it is a credible online course.

I got a really nice evaluation from my supervisor last week which surprised and pleased me. She said she feels comfortable giving me any case, knowing I’ll handle it well, among other things. I think it’s hard for me to take positive feedback sometimes because the nature of this work is so hard to pin down, and the results are so unclear. This marks about the half way point for the 2nd internship which is pretty crazy… now just write the friggin thesis, take my electives, and I’m ready to be unemployed.

Almost 2 months in, 5.5 to go. I’ve got 6 or 7 outpatient clients for regular therapy, done some phone screens, working in the community living program milieu setting 6 hours a week, and facilitating women’s group. So different from women’s group in the hospital since here everyone has known each other for ages. Next week I’ll do my first intake. Chugging along slowly on my thesis, hopefully that’ll get done and I’ll have a pleasant final summer.

can someone tell me what courses need to be taken in order to be a social worker? If there is any way i can prepare for this in high school please let me know. i have wanted to do this for as long as i can remember. it would be so awesome to help kids find better homes and help them be loved.
