davidmedsker is just plain awful
I lived for a year without cable tv four years ago and although it led to some boredome at first, within a week it had been replaced with better quality activities. I thought I could get it back and keep the quality, but it hasn’t happened. it’s started to go on in the background for comfort noise. I took the converter back to Cox two weeks ago and i’m so glad it’s gone. Some of the stuff makes me laugh so hard, but on a constance basis it turns into brainwashing and hardens my heart.
i did keep the monster television and surround sound. I still love a good movie.
What a great feeling to finally be back into books – although I have been in school; required reading does not fill a man soul like pleasure reading and the lack of the boob-tub beaming it’s lights… is a great feeling….
“He watched till his eyes were frozen wide,
And his bottom grew into his chair.
And his chin turned into a tuning dial,
And antennae grew out of his hair.
And his brains turned into TV tubes,
And his face to a TV screen.
And two knobs saying “vert.” and “horiz.”
Grew where his ears had been.
And he grew a plug that looked like a tail
So we plugged in little Jim.
And now instead of him watching TV
We all sit around and watch him.”— Shel Silverstein
The best thing about keeping this up is that it allows you to do so much more – read more, talk to others more, interact more…actually live more

TV is not really a problem for me. I find it boring and irritating and I usually find something to do while I’m “watching” it anyway. And since my husband loves it so much and doesn’t get to watch the tube very often because he works like a mad man, I will not kill any tv, I just won’t watch it very often. Which I don’t anyway. It’s the internet that I need to step away from.

Our T.V. actually died of natural causes but it was quickly replaced by another older model (that seems to be on it’s last antena). It may die too, but they’ll just keep coming back like mosquitoes.
I really do not watch much – but always have the news on during dinner – so I switched to NPR – better no dumb ads, untill that pledge drive starts up…
So I have fought against this for years; and several times I win this battle – but then I just flick it on while doing other things around the house and there I am back in the void. So I have decided to drop it for good – the only thing which stinks is that I have to keep paying for it b/c of my internet – or that is what they told me – I guess I should check on that

That I could be using to do good in the world and I have been spending it on the internet. How did I get so inert? I can’t actually kill my tv because I don’t own one, but my husband owns two and he really really likes them. I’m not sure if he would ever forgive me if they suddenly disappeared one day (especially the big screen, which I not-so-secretly hate except when we watch a DVD together). I think I might have to change this goal to stop watching TV in general. And stop wasting time on the internet.
It is great. I find that I really just don’t need it. The internet is enough of a time waster. TV really has pretty much nothing to offer me now, so I’ve completely given it up.
