August Goal/July Success 5 months ago

Well…I actually had to go track my car down to check the miles I drove in July. I know it’s around here somewhere…

So this will perhaps be shocking, but my mileage for July was….wait for it…10.1 miles. No, really. Granted, I was not working during that month, but STILL.

So maybe I can try to make it under 50 for August, now that I’m back to work and actually have to hop in the car once in awhile.

10.1! Holy crap!

July Miles and Sweeeeeeeet June 6 months ago

July goal is 100 miles. This is entirely doable, I’ve discovered, since I only drove 62 miles in June! I’m not working right now because of my injury, but I still have places to go quite often and I’ve been walking EVERYWHERE. I walk to the pharmacy, to the store, to my doctors appointments. I walk to the train when I go to visit my parents. For awhile, walking was the only real exercise I could do, so I’ve been going for it every chance I get. The only place I’ve been driving to really is K’s house and when I have to move my car for street sweeping.

62 when the goal was 200 – not too shabby!

June Miles 7 months ago

I did 221 miles in May. 200 was the goal, and it’s close enough that I’m counting the month as a success.

June goal is the same – 200 miles or less. Trying to make a habit of this low mileage, and it seems to be working fairly well. Bike is in working order now, but the day after I got it fixed up I threw out my back. Go figure! BUT, I can still walk, so I’ve been doing that and taking the train/bus. I refuse to let an injury get in my way.

May Miles! 8 months ago

I managed to stay under 250 miles for April, and that was WITH the housesitting I did way the eff out in the suburbs. Sweet!

Now that I have a bicycle, May’s goal will be 200 miles or less! I have no housesitting jobs booked, and pending an emergency of some sorts, this should be totally doable. Just gotta get the bike in working order.

April Miles 9 months ago

Didn’t quite stay under my 250 miles goal for March, but I blame it on the housesitting I did for my parents. So much back and forth!

So for April, I’m gonna try again for less than 250. I’m obtaining a bike in the next few days, and the weather is lovely, so I hope to make it much much less, but we shall see how it actually ends up once the month is over.

I made it under the 301 mark just barely for February. In March, my goal will be to keep it to 250.

Suburbs 10 months ago

I’m house-sitting for my parents in the suburbs for the next week which unfortunately means DRIVING TO WORK for a few days. It’s about a 20 to 25 minute drive, depending on traffic, and maybe 20 miles each way. I’ve been making myself very aware of my mileage tally all month in preparation for this, so I can hopefully still remain under my 300-mile limit for February. I think I’ll be able to do it, just barely. The train actually goes all the way out there, but with the time it would take up it’s just not worth it. Does anyone really want to deal with an hour-plus commute after working a 12-hour day? I think not.

Miles and Miles 11 months ago

I drove 301 miles in January. I started a new trip-log thing on the first of the month, and cleared it out and started a new one for this month. My goal is to drive less and less with each coming month. Shouldn’t be hard, I put a lot of miles on the car because I had to drive out to my parent’s to check on their house while they were gone several times. The rest is mostly back and forth to K’s and work.

So…less than 301 in February. Go me.

You know you're doing well with this goal... 17 months ago

...when you have to drive somewhere, but you can’t remember where you parked your car!

Carpool/train to work this whole week, because they are repaving the streets around the office, and they’re blocked off anyways – parking is a NIGHTMARE. Next order of business is to invest in a nice bicycle so I can get around a little faster.

Setting a goal for myself this month for commute to work – take public transit at least 4 times. It doesn’t seem like much, and it isn’t really, but this month it’s going to be difficult for me to not use my car because I’m doing a lot of housesitting up in the hills, rather un-walkable distances from work.

I’ve been really good about doing errands on foot EVERY TIME, and I carpool to work on the (few) days where this is possible. I’m even getting my library books send to the closer branch so I’m not tempted to drive across town for bookish deeds.
