turn 30 fabulously

Hmm.. so the first couple of months of being 30 weren’t anything to write home about. However, after much soul searching and agonising, key decisions were made about how I’m going to live my life from here on in. There are painful changes that have to be made, but if I’m going to be true to myself and want to set myself up to really enjoy my thirties, well then I’ll just have to make those changes and the sooner the better.

In these weeks of self-reflection, I’ve written a list of 30 things I’ve learned in the past 30 years. Some are from personal experience and some are from watching other people- both funny and serious.

1. If you are a pathological liar, no one will believe you when you are telling the truth.
2. Once a cheater, always a cheater.
3. Get a tattoo in a place you can hide it… this does NOT count your forearms!
4. Complaining gets you absolutely nowhere.
5. Bitching can possibly get you fired.
6. Mouthing off to cops is NOT going to help your situation.
7. Finish what you start.
8. Everyone has a dirty little secret.
9. You might die tomorrow, so go ahead and take some risks.
10. If you ever TRIED to rape a girl and failed because she knee-ed you in the balls or someone came to her rescue, you will always still be known as a rapist.
11. Somebody will always be better than you, no matter how good you are.
12. The only way to pass a piss test is to quit doing drugs. Period.
13. The only way to lose weight is to eat healthy and exercise, or develop an amphetamine habit.
14. Threesomes with 2 boys and 1 girl can be dangerous. The 2 boys might get jealous, fight, and the next thing you know your cat is playing with a bitten-off earlobe. (BTW, I was NOT the girl here!)
15. Any kind of threesome has the potential for drama.
16. Dump that asshole or bitch. You cannot change him or her.
17. No one deserves to be abused, either physically or psychologically.
18. Women are more willing to admit to homosexual tendencies than men.
19. If you sleep with your friends, don’t be surprised when people don’t take you seriously as “relationship material.”
20. You think you are smarter than everyone else because you are arrogant and close-minded.
21. You do NOT work better when you are jacked up on speed. I promise.
22. Knowing a lot of trivia is not a sign of intelligence.
23. Trying to be different is not equivalent to creative.
24. If you insist on partying like a rock star, you will have many embarrassing moments. Just be prepared.
25. Adults really do know more than teenagers.
26. Age is a little more than “just a number.” Even if they’re mature for their age.
27. Calling someone a million times a day will be perceived as creepy and obsessed.
28. If you put a marijuana leaf bumper sticker on your car, don’t complain when you get pulled over and searched.
29. Sometimes medication actually causes the personality disorders.
30. College degrees can be worthless.

A little over 2 months to go! I’m not really “scared” to turn 30, in fact I’m in a better place with my life now then I’ve ever been, it’s just that 30 SOUNDS so old to me! I keep thinking back to when I was younger and meeting people who were 30 and thinking “wow, they’re old.” It’s also making me think back on the past 29 years… accomplishments I’m proud of as well as things I’m ashamed of. I’ve definitely been up and down! Thankfully, it looks like I’ll turn 30 on an “up” part of my life so I might make it through this birthday okay…

I turned fabulous at 30!

I made it! yay, yesterday was awesome I went to Ocean City had fun.

I had a great 30th B-day and I am now firmly on the path of being a 30-something….Eeeek!

How did this happen? I keep thinking this is the last Tuesday that I will be a 20 something…This is the last time I’ll do this in my 20’s…This is the last whatever…Sigh…Time seemed to pass so slowly for so long but now it seems to have suddenly flown by bringing me to this point and making me question what the hell it is that I have been doing with myself the last 30 years??!!

Instead of going East to visit my family last weekend, my husband surprised me and we went West. He wouldn’t tell me where we were going. I finanlly figured it out half way there. We spent the weekend wine tasting in Walla Walla. Even better, 4 of our friends met us down there and surprised me. I guess they have been planning this for a while and had a hard time keeping it a secret from me. It was a great way to spend my 30th birthday…good friends and good wine!

Tomorrow is 30. I’m getting used to the idea. I don’t know why it is so hard for me. I think I am such a sentimental person that I get attached to everything…including my age. I did have a very successful decade. I’m quite proud of everything I have done. Everybody that has been 30 something tells me the 30s are great. I guess I just can’t believe I am this old…I feel so young still.

We’re taking a road trip tomorrow to visit my family for Easter. It will be nice to celebrate with them.
