I can’t tell you if it’s less messy than human births, as I’ve not seen that occur in person. (I was out like a light when both of my sons were born.)
Kittens come into the world as helpless little beings and mama cat’s attentions to those little beings is remarkable! I’ve seen lots of kitten births, (a few puppies, several goats and a colt as well)and every chance I get to see it, I do not miss that chance cause it changes a tiny little part of you. It makes you realize just how precious babies of any species are! They go through a rough time being born, yet they seem not to even notice!
One of the best stories I have to tell involves a dog, a pregnant cat and a frantic husband. Our cat, Saucy had gone into labor when I was at work. Gary didn’t know what do about this situation. (He was rather uncertain about this whole birthing thing when his sons were born also, so the cat having kittens on him while I was away really unnerved the man!) He calls me at work to tell me ‘there’s something really wrong with the cat!’ I told him she was probably going to have her kittens as the time was near. He asked if I could come home right now! and take care of it. I told him Saucy didn’t need to take care of anything, she would do it all herself. Just put her in the box we made up for her and keep the house quiet for her. Couple hours later I came home from work to find the man, the dog, two small boys, six kittens and smiling mama cat all camped out on the bed! I swear to you, the whole lot of them, dog, man, boys, cat…. all of them grinning from ear to ear! Gary talked so fast I hardly understood a word he said as he tried to relate the feelings running through him at witnessing such. He leaned forward and whispered “This was much more exciting than when either of the boys were born!” I took that as meaning he was totally amazed, flabberghasted and intigued at what he had witnessed that night. Strange how tiny little beings can move a grown man to tears! Tears of wonderment.
Yes, this is definetly worth doing…. every chance you get! 5 years ago
