i finally did it! 2 days ago

and it was awesome. nothing beats the adrenaline rush of racing through the cone course. just need to invest in sticky tires now….

always a passenger... 2 months ago

i’ve ridden with my husband and brother several times at events in atl and bham, but never driven the course in my car. i’m dying to, but really nervous as well! afraid i’ll be at the opening gate and just make myself sick with nerves and wreck the course!

hope to overcome the fear/nerves and do an event this month or in November.

Given up :-( 2 years ago

Well, between getting married and being the only breadwinner for a blended family, I can’t afford the time, money, and wear on the car.

I still miss it! 2 years ago

I loved autocrossing and I truly regret the day that my life became too hectic to allow me to keep doing it. I’d hoped I’d only have a temporary hiatus; but now, 17 years later, I have to admit that I’m not getting back to it soon.

Despite that lamentation, I still, 17 years later, miss it terribly! It was amazing fun and I learned so much about finesse and control both of myself and my car.

    Everyone should do this!!!

I’ve attended GM’s “Auto Show In Motion” events (these are held all over the country each year and you basically get to test-drive a bunch of cars from both GM and the competition on an autocross-style course) and one similar invitation-only event for the newest generation Mercedes E-class, and gotten totally hooked on the idea of thrashing around in an empty parking lot.

For a “real” SCCA autocross, in my own car (currently a 1998 Saturn SL2, by the way), I would need a helmet and somewhere to put all the loose stuff that’s filling up my back seat and trunk that I currently don’t have room to put anywhere else.

Maybe some other more experienced autocrosser in the area would let me borrow or rent their car for an event, or at least ride along with them, in the meantime?
