I usually bike my way to work and back, but today I was leaving home just to see that the back tire was flat. At least it was a beautiful day to walk in +25 degrees Celsius!
Still in Tookland for the next 0,3 miles.

642.2 km left to go. This week had a lot of walking around, which is not normal, but if it was I’d beat this challenge in 12 weeks. Hmm… 2 weeks ago

Haven’t worked on this one for a long time – started biking more. Will try to keep it in mind!
So far, I’ve walked 26.7, since I got the SportsTracker app in March. Just a couple hundred more km to go… 4 weeks ago

Walked two miles on Saturday last week/earlier this week and two miles on Wednesday. Not as much as I wanted to, but it’s certainly a start!
I figured I’d do this as a weekly record… Because I was hoping I’d walk more and also because an entry for every day I walked would probably be annoying…?

Still too cold! xD
But we just got a treadmill, and so until its nicer out I fully intend to take advantage of it!
Four hundred fifty-eight miles is a loooooong distance, though… 2 months ago

Currently at 220km.
For me, this isn’t so much of a goal as just a way of seeing how far I actually do walk. Maybe I’ll do it as a proper goal one day when I’m back in the UK and walking the hills and dales or something :]
Interesting keeping track of it though! 4 months ago

Currently up to 85km. Rounded up to cover a few trips to and from the station that my phone didn’t register.

I had three very lazy weeks (believe me, I had an excuse!) and completely forgot to set my walker thing a few times so I’ve restarted today!

Okay, so I’ve done the maths and decided to walk a minimum of 3km a day. This means I’ll have the challenge done in 246 days if I stick to that but I do, often, walk a lot more so that’s good.
Reset the pedometer on my phone and I’m making a start today! Walking to the gym and back and I’ll count however many KM I do on the treadmill.
I’ll also be rounding up/down my KMs just to make counting easier. 7 months ago

So the walk is 458 miles, around 738 km (which is what the app on my phone measures in, being in Oz)
In less than four months, I managed over 500km so it’s actually completely possible for me to do this in maybe five months. I’ll be resetting the journey tomorrow and getting straight on it. I’ll do all the maths later tonight, setting myself a goal date and what not (rushing off to work now!) but this is exciting :D 7 months ago

How I did it: I used a joe's goals log to track my daily miles. I estimated distances based on number of blocks, and I only counted outside walking. Every week I posted my mileage and the little sentence of story that said what I'd done. Read how I did it… 7 months ago

On Monday the Road ran gently downhill, with lots of grass on the sides and the hills still on the north. On Wednesday, the Road dropped through a cutting of red stones topped with tall pines, then we crossed a long flat area, moving toward the river. We reached the Ford of Bruinen and had a clear view of the Misty Mountains. We camped there. We crossed the ford and Gandalf picked out the path for us. We stepped carefully. On Thursday the path ran past a steep gully on the left. On Friday we passed a deep ravine on the east side with a waterfall inside. On Saturday we came to the sudden cliff into the valley of Rivendell. We rode slowly down the zig-zag path past pines and then beech and oak as we got lower. We led our ponies across the narrow bridge over the upper Bruinen and reached the Last Homely House in Rivendell at long last. 7 months ago

The Road now runs due east. We’re low on provisions, so we pick up the pace. By Wednesday I could see ruins on a hilltop to the north. On Friday the ravine of the Bruinen comes close on the south side of the Road, and the Road turns to the northeast. On Saturday we passed a valley from the north. On Sunday we made camp, then continued northeast; the Road still hugging the feet of the Trollshaws. 7 months ago

On Wednesday the Road turned southeast and skirted the hills of the Trollshaws. On Friday we camped. Then we got up early the next morning and made haste to get going. On Sunday we made it to the woods and started east on the road. 8 months ago

Gandalf keeps the trolls up all night arguing and then the sun comes up “Dawn take you all and be stone to you!” Then on Tuesday we have a side adventure which takes 2 miles where we traipse off to the troll’s hole and get a bunch of gold and our swords (Beater, Biter, and Sting). I get Sting. I get to be Bilbo in my own adventure story.
For my own convenience, I’m adding the subtracted running total, even though I’m close to the end of this leg of the trip. 8 months ago

(Yay! Stuff is happening!)
I continued southeast on the Road, while the weather turned cold and wet. On Wednesday I reached the northeast end of a valley on the south of the Road. I continued on; the Road was now only a muddy track. By Friday it was nearly dark and I crossed the Last Bridge.
I noticed that Gandalf was missing. A pony bolted into the river and I lost the baggage with the food. I saw a fire among the trees on the east hillside and went to investigate.
(I do not reach my destination this week as it is a ridiculous 7 miles to the trolls’ fire from where I started, though the site I am using notes that this is clearly a problematic conflict with the LOTR Atlas saying 7 miles and The Hobbit indicating a mile or so at the most. Ah well, tune in next week and I’ll get captured by the trolls, assuming I can trek 7 miles through the woods. Actually a good bit of my real walking is through the woods, but it’s along the side of a paved, well-used road.) 8 months ago
