Went boarding for the second time, and this time I did it right—waterproof pants and everything. IT WAS SO FUN—I was falling leaf heelside down an intermediate slope, carving back and forth—SO much better than I did my first time, which was basically sitting down in wet, cold jeans on the bunny slope all day. Especially my last run (which was extra cool because it was at night and they turned on the lights—SICKNESS!), I was so smooth and comfortable. Knees bent, stance comfortable, weight balanced over my board and distributed evenly between my feet, I slid easily between people and around ramps. I couldn’t get that intoxicating feeling of being on the slopes out of my head for days. Falling in the soft, white powder, grinding on the ice… even falling, laughing at the thrill of going fast and wiping out, and hopping right back up again… oh, it’s an almost indescribable feeling. I really want to get better, and I’m gonna need a board if I plan on doing that.
I’m gonna go a couple more times, hopefully this season, to improve and see if getting a board soon is really the right move for me. Gotta work on those toe-side turns. But after that unforgettable day, it’s really tough to imagine never feeling the way I did on those slopes again. Let’s go back!
