I do happen to know how my state senator and representative voted most recently on an issue of importance to me, same-sex marriage rights, and I also know that a.) my rep is up for re-election on Nov. 7, and b.) there is a Constitutional Convention to debate this very issue (for the zillionth time) on Nov. 9. So, as personal letters garner much more attention than emails or mass-mailed postcards and conceivably phone calls, depending on the note-taking abilities of the aide who answers the phone, I wrote a card to each today thanking them for their past support of same-sex couples and to urge them to continue to vote to protect their constituents’ civil rights… and reminded them that I’m a registered voter prepared to cast my own ballot two days before the ConCon. It’s a little thing, maybe, but I want to get into this habit.

I could really stand to be more politically active, since I want my career to go that direction. What I really need to do is find out what bills are currently up that are of concern to me and write some little love notes to my reps about them.
