    Mommy says... 3 years ago

...I’m working against myself if I try this right now.

Something about tightening my pecs being a bad thing, especially if I’m not working on my back muscles in the way that I should. Then she threw out her requisite unpronouncable anatomical terms like I was supposed to know what she was talking about.

It’s great having a physical trainer for a mother, but her visit last weekend made me slightly nervous and on edge as I was battling “expectation management” what with my grandmother’s comment a week before her arrival, “Yeah, she’s almost as skinny as you!”

    Good grief, gran.

Mom’s comment during our goodbye’s made me feel bad for being nervous though (“She always impresses me”).

Anyway, off the list this goes. I may try it again during the winter when I intend to improve on my 10K pace.

Women should aim for 60-75% of their weight... 3 years ago

...these are the numbers I’ve seen in my web travels over the past few minutes. That’s certainly doable and a great initial goal to shoot for. It means though that I won’t be aiming for 100 pounds straight out the gate (now you have a better idea of my goal weight, should you want to play with your calculator).

This’ll be fun for the bragging rights. Not sure yet who I’d be bragging to, but the fact that I could if the opportunity arose is just as compelling a reason to try this out :-)

Now, the only other cause for concern is getting my partner to come with me to the gym and the “Dude Corner” (where I’ve only ever seen two other women in the four years that I’ve visited that gym on and off) so that I have a spotter.

Just thought about adding this in a fit of craziness... 3 years ago

...mind you I see that some dudes here on 43T are benching more than their weight (or at least I hope they don’t actually weigh 300 pounds).

To clarify, I’d like to benchpress my goal weight. And “No” you will not know that that number is. Suffice it to say that it’s between 100 and 150 :-)

Even 100 pounds seems a huge feat for me as what a currently bench is a “naked” barbell (i.e. no weights) and that I can’t even do 20 proper pushups yet.

(Wonders…) Do girls even do this? How about girls that are almost 30?
