Got an awsome deal on a piano 4 months ago

We found an awesome antique piano on kijiji and now I’m about to realize a life-long dream; learning to play. Linus and Lucy is the one piece of music I most want to learn to play. ... although currently I’m doing better with Beethoven’s Sonata 14, Moonlight. Hey, for someone who has never taken piano lessons I think I’m doing fantabulous! As for the Peanuts theme… that may take a bit longer, but I can sorta do each hand individually.

Sheet Music 21 months ago

I received the sheet music in the mail and am ready to learn how to play this song! Now all I need is a keyboard/piano, lol.

Piano World Forum 22 months ago

The Piano World website formed a study group for Linus and Lucy a few months back (actually I think it was 2006) and if you go to the website and search for Linus and Lucy, you will find their study notes. There are also odd bites here and there of discussion on how to play the piece that were not part of the study group. The study group has finished the piece, but the information is still available on the website, along with a lot of other very good information. www.pianoworld.com

Just Starting 22 months ago

Well I’ve borrowed a keyboard and I’m watching all the “How To..” videos on YouTube. I’ve managed to learn the first couple of keys but I know there is ALOT more to learn. I’m determined to learn the whole song!Does anyone know a better way to learn if you don’t know how to read sheet music?

Been trying for 30 years 22 months ago

When I was in junior high school in the mid 70’s, there were three pieces that everyone started learning piano in order to play: “The Entertainer” (from the movie the “The Sting”), “Classical Gas” (if your boyfriend was learning the guitar, the piano/guitar version of Classical Gas was a MUST if you didn’t want to lose your mind), and “Linus and Lucy” because it was just so cool. Unfortunately, I learned the simplest, C-Major version of “The Entertainer” and was happy with that. I never learned most of “Classical Gas” but I married a drummer, so it didn’t matter. I have never stopped trying to learn “Linus and Lucy”, though, the real version that’s eight pages long and has four flats – not the simple version in an easy key. I have the sheet music and I will proceed one page at a time. I have the Vince Guaraldi recording (my favorite) and also there are many videos on YouTube of people playing it well or not so well, and I have learned a lot from them. MOST IMPORTANT THING: I have little tiny hands that barely spread an octave. I keep moving them all over because I think that is the only way I will cover the keys, but I saw a guy play it on YouTube, and those right hand chords in the beginning – he anchored his middle finger on A-flat and never budged it. Now those chords are much easier to find!

I’ve never played an instrument in my life but this song motivates me to learn to play the piano. I’m currently looking for the sheet music and then I need to buy a piano or a keyboard, lol.
