Due to a big storm coming up, they wouldn’t let us cross. If we’d been half an hour earlier, we could have done it. We swam a bit in the lake anyway. It was wonderful to swim in a lake (I haven’t done it since summer camp) but not as wonderful as crossing the lake. Oh well, there’s always next year!

Done today! Wasn’t bad at all I swum it with my husband very relaxed. it took 60 min to swim the 1450m
I have already been swimming in the Rhein a lot so I need a new thing to try. Limmat schwimmen is way too easy without hardly any current.
I’m out of shape but a good swimmer – Finland is the land of thousands of lakes and I have crossed longer distances before.
Now I just need to go swimming again – perhaps this evening I’ll dip into the lake to feel the temperature.
1500 meters, 50 minutes.
Take that, Lake Zurich!!
Ok, so it was in a swimming pool that was 28 degrees. It has to be at least 21 degrees before the lake crossing takes place. Brrr!!
It’s pretty hard to do a Ph.D., run, swim, and attempt to lead a normal life all at the same time. These days, the swimming, my newest goal, is slacking. So far, I’ve swum a maximum of 1300m (or 1200m, I sometimes loose track) and it takes about 45 minutes. I guess I need one of those clickers to count…
Oh, but wait—the Lake Swim is only 1450 meters, so if I can do something like 1700 m in the swimming pool, I should be well prepared to handle the currents.
So I went swimming on Wednesday, April 26 for the first time in ages! I had just bought some brand-new fog-free goggles to motivate myself. Unfortunately, got a huge leg cramp and didn’t even swim 1000 m…but I enjoyed every minute of it.
This goal, like my goal Run a 5k, was chosen to help me meet my exercise 3x a week goal. Also, I love to swim, and it’s something like to do anyway in the summer-I did it constantly as a kid. The course is 2000 m long and takes place on July 6, 2006-as long as the water temperature is 21°C/70°F. I also plan to do the Limmatschwimmen on August 26—it’s also about 2000 m but with the current it’s about half as long.
