    2010 resolutions 6 days ago

Hi there, last week, i discovered that some hostile forces are actually blessings in disguise. Some people we thought were enemies are actually friends in disguise. This is especially true of our youths, who often feel overwhelmed and dejected over the genuine instructions, counsel and training of their tutors, mentors, leaders, parents or well – wishers. Many young people are living in delusion, hoping that someday, they’ll land in success destination.
But they loaf around, while away time, refuse to get education or training, squander resources, take opportunities for granted, refuse to learn from experienced persons or experts. They are arrogant, un-teachable, stubborn, unyielding, ignorant and sadly, foolhardy. They are their own enemies! Yes, you can be your own enemy through the choices you make. Some choices that can wreck your potentials and destroy your destiny include:

    Laziness
Refusing to work hard, refusing to expend energy on your vision and goals spells doom for every human purpose. A lazy man will give a thousand and one excuses and wind up terminating his erstwhile promising vision in life.

    Incompetence
This simply means lack of skill, lack of ability, ineptitude and ineffectiveness. Many people are ignorant about the requirements for their chosen profession or job. They don’t know, and sadly, don’t want to know. I think this is foolishness and stupidity. The wise and discerning are those who may be ignorant about something, but they are humble enough to admit and do something about their ignorance. They seek knowledge by research; enquiry, reading books, journals and relevant materials to reduce and possibly eradicate their ignorance. They interview those that are better informed, or ask for other opinions and view points to compare with their existing information. They attend training programmes; seminars, workshops, courses and vocational training to sharpen their skills and competence. They also access audiovisual materials, enhance their practical knowledge via careful observation, focus, practice and perfect mastery of their craft.
    Bad company
Bad friends and company destroy destiny. They lead you astray, giving poor and myopic counsel based on their own narrow perspectives and ignorance. Following them is a leeway to destruction.

    Mediocrity
Setting low standards for yourself and aiming at being just average is one sure way to being your own enemy. This is because life rewards excellence, not mediocrity. You must consciously raise your standards and move yourself to a glorious destiny.

    Poor planning
Proper planning is an essential ingredient for a fulfilling destiny. Some people say “whatever will be will be, so why waste time planning your life?” Some say “If God wants me to succeed, I’ll succeed anyhow, but if I’m destined for poverty, no matter what I do, I’ll never succeed.” Well, this is the excuse of those who have resigned to a life of misery. They’ve given up on themselves and they are too lazy to do anything about their situation. Friend, even if you were originally doomed to failure, your destiny can be rewritten by God, through your faith, positive attitude, good planning, preparation, personal effort and determination. Find courage and draw strength from within. Pray, do something extra and your destiny shall be beautiful.

    Bad habits
Some bad habits like squandering resources, spending without thinking, not saving money and not investing can lead to lack, poverty, debts, frustration, stagnation and a miserable destiny. Other habits like alcoholism, drug abuse, addiction, adultery, fornication, pornography, wild partying, cheating, stealing, killing, violence and living a fraudulent life equally destroy destiny.

    Procrastination
This is a sure destroyer of destiny; thinking you have all the time in the world, and delaying what you ought to do today, till another day. Truly, this is a subtle and seemingly innocuous attitude that destroys opportunities in life. May your destiny and mine not be slaughtered as a result of procrastination. We need to prioritize, be proactive, time conscious and achieve our best every day of our lives. God bless you.
