I’m getting there! I stopped having sugar with my coffee a few months ago and have since cut down to 1-2 coffees with milk in the morning and instead of coffee I have green tea for the rest of the day. The coffee is the hardest part because I don’t like black coffee. I’ve had a few slip ups along the way. Its the middle of winter here and I ate the ultimate winter comfort food one night last week, 2 pieces of bread with stew for dinner. I am fully intending on getting back on track from today onwards.
How to switch to the paleo diet
How I did it: I started by reading some articles on the net. I got interested enough to order the book also. The diet is quite simple: just leave out some specific stuff and include more vegatables to get enough calories.
The harder part was finding good recipes and making my own food quickly in daily basis. After about two weeks I had developed "standard meals" that I could cook quickly. I am also eating in staff canteen "90% paleo" that seems to work well for me.
Lessons & tips:
- Google paleo diet
- Read some of the basic articles (start with http://www.earth360.com/diet_paleodiet_balzer.html)
- Leave out dairy, grains, rice, potatoes, candy, coffee/tea, alcohol
- Instead of rice/potatoes/pasta use steamed vegatables
- Eat lots of fruits, berries and lean meat (cut away the fat)
- I think reading the book is a very good idea, but not necessary (http://www.thepaleodiet.com/)

I already eat pretty close to paleo in comparison with the general population. Massive amounts of vegetables. I need to work out how to eat more quality meat though and probably less pulses.
threedee is back on paleo diet
Switching to paleo was easy for me, so I could already say I have completed this goal. But that’s not really the point for me. The real point is staying with the diet for a long time :-)
I have set myself a reminder in 12 months and if I am still on paleo, then I’ll say I have completed the goal.
I’m thinking of trying it for a while. I get cold fingers, and that could be from hyperinsulemia from eating grains and sugar according to some proponents of Paleodiet. Also, sometimes I get the suspicion wheat makes me depressed.
I translated an article about Paleodiet from Swedish and put it on my blog as part of working on one of my other goals here: learn Swedish
Can I get on again??? Of course I can. Need to get organised today and buy some more of the right kind of food! I want to look thin this weekend, I know if I go back to low carb, I will lose some of this pasta and bread induced bloat.
Doing well so far :-), I am well back into it. This is the way I was eating before I moved to Germany and I feel so much better for going back to it.
Went out today and spent an obscene amount of money on fresh meat, seafood, fruit, vegetables and nuts so I have plenty of the right kind of food in the hosue and won’t be tempted by cravings for nachos, fries with mayo etc….
I have eaten this way before, so its not too hard to slip back into it.
Things I ate- huge salads, steak, sashmi, loads of fruit. I will report back in a week with hopefully good news.
I stuck to the Paleo/ Caveman/ Neanderthin diet all day, except then I went out and drank Weissbier, which as one of my drinking companions pointed out to me, was made of grain! Oh well, am doing well today too and hope it continues.
...but I am still going and trying very hard to stick to it. I need to plan meals ahead more and work out contingency plans for every occasion so I am not left starving and desperate. Otherwise I will be living on turkey breast and eggs!
Received two new books on the mail today which I hope will help motivate me. Neanderthin and The Paleo Diet for Athletes :-)
