Emily17 June 2003 - Europe trip; London
It was ten or eleven at night and Halei needed contact solution. Bethy and I had already showered and gotten into PJs, but we didn’t want her to go out alone. So Halei put on PJs and we all went out wondering around Notting Hill dressed for bed and looking for a drugstore. We walked about half a mile until we found a huge building that said Pharmacy in big white letters. There was the faint sound of club music coming out through the doors, but we didn’t really notice. The automatic doors open and we are facing a desk with two very amused, well dressed people behind it. Halei stepped up and asked, “Ah…do you have contact solution?” To which the guy replied, “Are you sleepwalking?” (I’m assuming that was a snide remark about our PJs.) The woman next to him, who was nicer, said, “We’re a bar and restaurant.” So all of us are a little confused. Halei’s like, “So you’re the Pharmacy, but not a pharmacy…” And it’s weird, because they had pills up on their counter and everything. I guess it was just their theme. That or it’s recreational drug central…
(I later found out the place was designed by Damien Hirst, which is insanely cool.) 6 years ago
