dreadlock my hair

I did it, and then let them get tight, but the shorter they got the more I looked like one of the guys from ICP. I just don’t have the confidence to pull that off. So, I completed the goal, but the dreads were short lived…not much more than a week. And they took a hell of a long time to comb out! Some day, when my hair is much longer, I WILL try again.

Oh, joy! Day one. I’ll consider this goal complete once they start to knot up and become more of a permanent fixture.

My hair was plenty long enough to dreadlock (to a sizable dread, in my opinion) but the few I have were getting all tangled in the undreaded mess and the long hair in general was really bugging me. So I cut it. I still have the few dreads, but I regret cutting it :( When it grows a bit more, I WILL dread it all.

Mmm, I was at a New Years party and woke up the next morning to find I had acquired yet another dreadlock. Score.

Two and a half dreadlocks. I keep adding them at random. I would like each of my friends to do at least one, which I think will make it special, so it’s going to be a process. And I’m going to look pretty funny for a while…

I’d really like to secure another job before I actually do this, but I’m so impatient! I already did one underneath and there is one little dreadling forming itself at the back of my head :)

I’m officially a “dreadhead.”

After a total of 13 hours… My hair is completely done. WOOOOO!

Now for the fun part… maintainence…

Alright… I’ve started my journey!

It has taken 6.5 hours so far, and that is only half of my head. I am wearing a doo-rag to work today… everyone is trying to rip it off to see my new dreads, but I will kill them if they do. HAHA.

So, I am placing my order for DreadHeadHQ and getting some knotty products in soon to make my locks beautiful. My hair is about 13 inches, but a great “texture” to hold the locks. [everyone has always joked that I must have some african blood in me… I have crazy hair for a white girl, lol.] Once I get them done, I may trim them up to make sure they look good.

years ago, i had beautiful thick dreadlocks, halfway down my back, decorated lovingly with beads and other materials. and i did them myself! i miss those dreadlocks… i had them for a good two years, at which point i decided i needed a change. actually, i broke-up with my lover, and being the emotional hair-cutter that i am, i had to hack off all of my dreads to symbolize the change. oh well. i’ve had a shaved head, a mohawk, a chelsea cut, and all sorts of things these last few years… and i’m read to grow my dreadies back. so ready, in fact, that i have five baby dreadies in development!! i’ve started washing my hair as though i have dreadlocks (which means not too often and using a special shampoo) and never comb my hair (which is only maybe four inches long anyhow). and five little dreads have budded on their own, so of course i am backcombing and coaxing them along. when my hair grows a bit more, i will get more serious and buy some wax and sit down and do my whole head. how exciting!!
