I went to school in the Boston area for 4 years! And senior year, I kept telling myself, I can do this, I can do this and pushing myself to run 10K’s. Needless to say, schoolwork and other things caught up to me and this goal fell flat on its face. One of my major problems is I struggle with long term goals, and everyone knows that you can’t suddenly run a marathon within a week. Well, I still have the rest of my life to train for this so here goes…

Do you want to run the BOSTON MARATHON but don’t time qualify? Don’t worry…
The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is excited to have been selected as an official charity by John Hancock Financial Services, the lead sponsor of the Boston Marathon, to receive 60 invitational marathon entries for the 112th running of the Boston Marathon, which will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008. An invitational entry allows participation in the Boston Marathon without having met the official time requirements. Each runner who receives an invitational entry will become a member of Team Eye and Ear and will be required to raise a minimum of $3,000 to support the efforts of MEEI and help fund hope for thos individuals suffering from eye, ear, nose, throat, head and neck disorders.
Qualified runners are also welcome and encouraged to join the team!!
If you’d like to join the MEEI marathon team or know someone who would, please contact the Special Events Coordinator, Kristina Sym, at 617-573-6364 or email Kristina_Sym@meei.harvard.edu
//////////// HURRY! SPACE IS LIMITED!!! \\\\\\\\\\\\*\
It was wet and windy. But if you live in the PNW, like I do, you are used to it. It was fun. Did not do great, but it was OK enough (3:05:05).
I have never ran more than a mile in my life. I know this goal is most likely out of my reach right now, but I eventually want to complete this.
i’ll be running it this week end. if i get my time to 1:45 i’ll have a chance at boston. “a person’s reach should be just beyond his grasp”
i’m at a 4 hour pace, need to cut it down to 3:45. wish me luck.
Currently I am focused on dropping weight and working out in my heart rate zone. I saw one web site that talked about the need to be 10%-15% under the reccomended body weight in an effort to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
I am curious what tips you have heard, advice you can give, or time it took you to qualify?
Thanks in advance.
Bill
