DaringDaphne has been a non-smoker for 75 days and counting! :)
My cousin is expecting triplets soon, but I don’t know her due date. In fact, I don’t even remember what month it was when I first heard the news. My half-sister has a 3-year-old I’ve never met and never sent a gift to. I don’t think many of my little cousins really know who I am. I rarely call home to my Dad, and when there’s an emergency or when communication becomes essential… well, that’s when I’m least likely to call and hardest to get a hold of.
I don’t have contact information for a number of relations to begin with. I don’t know the birthday of a single family member outside my immediate family. I can’t remember the last time I mailed a birthday card to a relative. I don’t even know that much about a number of my relatives (like what they do for work or where the heck they live or when I’ll ever see them again).
Until she passed away, my grandmother kept track of everyone and kept me filled in. I need to take responsibility for keeping in touch with everyone now, before it gets any later. I want my future children to be able to meet all their second and third cousins and to learn about their family history from relatives who were there to see it all. I want to know how my family members are doing, and that they are all in good health.
As for friends, there have been very few I cared to keep in touch with over the years. Very few. Seriously, there are very few people (outside of family) whom I wouldn’t be annoyed at running into—much less that I want to actively keep in touch with! I should, however, look up those few friends that I wouldn’t mind seeing, because you never know when it might be your last opportunity. I already had one friend pass away while I was busy assuming that he would always be there to visit. I don’t ever want to make that mistake again.

I made small improvements. I wrote a long email to my family in the States. I also called my stepfather to say happy birthday, and went for a coffee with a childhood friend i haven’t see in a while. I have a Facebook account (ofcourse), which is supposed to make conact with all of my friends much easier, but I just don’t like it. I have to call few of my friends I haven’t see or heard in a while. Even though I’m so busy righ now, some people are really precious to me and I wouldn’t like to loose them.

I started doing MySpace, which accomplishes this. It tells you what al your friends and family are up to, and even eminds you of their birthdays.

We recently went on a family vacation to Florida during which I shared a hotel with my older brother and my oldest sister and her family. During the trip, cell service wasn’t the greatest, so my sister and her husband took to texting us while we weren’t around. Now we’ve all come home and they’ve gotten a texting plan and we’ve consistently been texting each other since. I feel so much closer to them all after that trip, and it’s wonderful.
Also, yesterday, I messaged people and called 3 more, caught up with an old friend that I’ve been playing phone tag with for months and we set up a potential hang out date for the summer. This summer isn’t going so badly with this one.
I’m so prone to distancing myself from people who aren’t nearby, so I have to watch myself definitely with being pretty much alone, without transportation, in the Poconos, which can be really desolate at times.

Today I set up a MySpace page at www.myspace.com/silvertastic and anyone is more than welcome to come visit me. I resisted 4 a long time, and a lot of the kids have layouts that suck. i’m trying to keep mine pretty cool, and it’s much more comprehenesive than i thought. it’s a great internet place to set up and keep in touch with family and friends. i am psyched.

I keep getting e-mails from friends we made more than ten years ago in high school and then when we lived in Misawa, Japan. I’m so encouraged and touched by this. I think they are keeping up with my whole “Cushing’s Syndrome” saga.
Also my Mom and my sister are settling in very well here. My sister is 10 and she loves it here so far. She’s kind of on a vacation until we can enroll her in school. She drew me a fantastic picture yesterday.
