How I did it: I applied for grad school in school psychology at the Chicago School. I got in, got accepted, found an apartment in east Lakeview 2 days before moving (don't recommend waiting that long!) and here I am two months later becoming a true Chicagoen. It's fun when you can help a tourist find where they're going. The best part about where I live is being steps from the lake and lakeshore path. Tips for finding great places to eat--use urbanspoon! I am trying to make this more than a dream. But sometimes I get afraid that I’m playing it up too much. Do I want to break the illusion of what Chicago is to me? I’m mostly afraid I won’t get a job and I’ll have no way to support myself. And that’s especially not good in a city with no family or friends I know around. I want to have a positive attitude about it though. But these thoughts still sneak in. 5 months ago

How I did it: My friend came to Chicago for a job interview, I rode in her car. I gave away my things that wouldn't fit in a suitcase (except my violin).
Stayed in a youth hostel for 4 days until I found an apartment, found a job in the neighborhood a few blocks from my house. Read how I did it… 7 months ago
