I’ve been planning to move to Chicago since I was 15 (I’m 17 now), and I am planning the move for March 2010. I’ve lived in a pretty small town in West Virginia my whole life so this will be a huge move for me. Two of my friends who already live in Chicago are going to be my room mates. Basically, Now I’m just working on saving more money and I can’t wait to move. I’ll let you all know how it went afterward. :)

How I did it: I found a job first, then did a lot of research online. I found an apartment on Craigslist. I was lucky enough to know someone in Chicago who could recommend neighborhoods. Once I made the decision, I just set the move date and worked to get all my ducks in line. Read how I did it…

i’va had this goal for some time now, but now i know that i really am going to move there. I live in a small town in kansas and i’ve always wanted to live in a big city. After living in San Antonio for two months, it made it more clear to me, i need to really start preparing for this so i won’t spend the rest of my life in kansas. I’m setting a date for january but may have to move that up so i can save more money. I’m scared and excited at the same time but i know that i need to do this for myself. I am already saving money.
It sounds like a long time but it’s my goal to have moved to Chicago in 10 years time… that way I finish college, do uni and have a year of two fully qualified in the UK before I move…. :)
I’ve been talking to my friend Whitney (who lived in Chicago for two years) about neighborhoods and I’ve been researching apartments. Its soooo expensive! I pay $560 for my VERY SPACIOUS 1bd apartment here in Des Moines, but it looks like I’ll be paying about 800-100 for what I’d like in Chicago!
Moving to Chicago in the summer.
Finding a job in my industr yis going to take some time, so I’d like to do something fun in the meantime in the tourism industry. The art institute would be totally drool worthy as would any sort of tour guide position.
Anyone know of some cool places who take summer workers?
I decided to move to Chicago a couple of months ago. In six weeks I will be moving back to my parents’ (yikes!) in the suburbs while I look for a job and place to live. Goal is to be ready to move into my own place when my current lease in Indianapolis ends in July.
I am currently researching neighborhoods and jobs, but I need to get more serious about it. I know I want to live alone, so I need to find a place that I can afford by myself. I would really like to live in the Ukrainian Village, I think (haven’t gotten to visit yet, so that might change).
Somehow…I am in love with this city. It is enchanting. You feel steeped in the past, but the rush of the present (and the L train!) is there. It is beautiful…I just want to go NOW!!!!!
Ever since I was little Ive always wanted to move to a big city. When I was in high school I dreamed of running away to NYC, but it was always impractical and never was realized. Now Im 22 years old and feel like Ive been toiling away my life with waitressing jobs in Boone, NC. I love this town but i absolutely have to move to a city thats not in NC. So I did a lot of research about schools, rent rates and health care (i want to go into nursing)and decided Chicago was the city for me! Ive done some research and have learned about the neighborhoods etc. but still Ive never even been there (but am planning a trip for spring)!! I plan to move during the summer- any tips/jumping points??
p.s. its good to know that there are other people out there with this crazy need!
I’ve never been to Chicago but I feel I have to move there. I see something about Chicago several times a day every day. I don’t know if it’s just my brain pretending it’s a sign or what but I am trying to visit soon and then I will really make up my mind weather I want to try and move there or not.
