Crossing my fingers 15 months ago

I don’t even know where to start, but I wanna try. I’ve got some issues with week muscles and bad connective tissue, but I so want to do my best by myself. SO, now I try for better posture. Wish me luck!

Think I can call this completed 2 years ago

my posture is much better these days. My computer’s pretty much at the right height now, and my back muscles are a lot stronger now that I’ve been exercising. When I need to remember to stand or sit up straight, I imagine three lines going from where my neck joins my back (is there a name for that?) to my head and each of my shoulders, and imagine the lines pulled taut. That works :)

String 2 years ago

The imagining a string pulling the top of your head trick works. At first it was hard to constantly remind myself but it got easier. Now I feel unconfortable when I even think of slouching.

Getting better at this 2 years ago

I’m remembering to hold my shoulders back and sit up straight, and over time it’s feeling more natural to do so.

Oh, old goals 2 years ago

I checked my the list of goals I gave up on today and found a few that I’d accomplished, a few that I don’t really want to do anymore, and a few that I still want to do, sometime in the future. The goal of “qualify to national championships” made me momentarily sad, but that’s all in the past now.

I can’t remember when I had bad posture, but I guess I did. I vaguely recall my mother always telling me to stop slouching and keep my shoulders back, but somewhere along the way, I guess I started listening. Now, people compliment me on my posture all the time. Apparently, it gives me a very elegant bearing. The first time someone told me that, I was so surprised because I didn’t realize that I had actually improved my posture and that it was as easy as just standing/sitting straight more often until it became natural.

Physio's great and pilates works too 3 years ago

I used to have appalling posture, functional scoliosis and lordosis and constant back pain. Now I don’t.

I went to a physio, they gave me some exercises to do at the gym, I did them pretty regularly for a few years. In the first few months, I got about three inches taller just by straightening out my spine!

I now do pilates to keep my back in shape and it’s great. I stand up completely straight for hours after each class! (Then I undo the good work by slumping over my computer… oops!)

Yoga’s actually pretty good for helping your posture too—I’ve had a few classes and they have a similar ‘stand up straight’ effect.

Hope that helps!

i would love to sit up straight but i just cant seem to for more than an hour :P i always forget haha

Hey! Sit up straight! 3 years ago

I love coming here and just seeing my goal… it reminds me to sit up staight.
Other than that… not doing so great with this one so far.

I wonder if I have scoliosis 3 years ago

My spine does not quite have a Quasimoto-degree of distortion. But my shoulders are uneven and my right hip is more prominent.
Regardless, my posture could be much improved with effort and muscle tone. I wish I had someone to follow me around and remind me of things. “Stand up straight” “Tie your shoe” “Remove the toothpaste from the corner of your mouth”
Honestly, sometimes I wonder how I make it through each day without harming myself.
