Got a Garmin eTrex 3 years ago

I purchased a used basic GPS, a Garmin eTrex three or four years old from a local usenet newsgroup for $CDN60. It does everything I want at this point in time, which isn’t much. I’m interested in Waymarking wild fungi siting locations; family gravesites to be permanently recorded on the online family tree; bookcrossing release sites, such as this one!

Maybe I’ll get ambitious and learn how to do more but, for now I’m quite content!

Garmin Forerunner 101 3 years ago

I bought my Garmin just last night, it doesn’t have heart rate on it but it does have a number of great features. Tonight’s run was my first with it and I know that I went precisely 6.30km.
I bought it from The Running Room where it was on sale for 79.99 CAN. It has a virtual running partner, interval training and gps point tracking. It seems to be very easy to use and I am looking forward to my next run with it.
There are higher-end forerunners; one of the big differences with the 101 is you cannot connect it to your computer for uploading workouts. I think I won’t really miss that feature, even as mild computer geek with a small gadget issue. The 101 holds two years worth of records on board and I do use the Running Room training log which is a free service on their website.

Would be great to have one!! 3 years ago

Benefits:

-It would be easier for me to geotag the pictures I take for my site WelcomePanama.com
-To map the locations of the places in the mashups
-Be able to play geocaching

Got a Geko 201, the built in games make going for a run much less boring… although you do look like a bit of a nutter, running around seemingly at random.
