I’m hoping to sustain this until it becomes a habit. I tend to wake up late often and rush around the house like a mad woman to start my day. It is nice to start the day from a paced and contemplative place.
How to get up at Five am everyday
How I did it: I just set my alarm and I did it. I started straight after travelling from Canada to Hanoi so I had severe jet lag. I think that helped.

Perhaps the motivation came from having something to do that I wanted to do at 5:00 AM. I’m starting a 108 day meditation marathon:http://zenundertheskin.typepad.com/108days and I expect I’ll awaken with high energy and enthusiasm in the beginning. I’m hoping to sustain the practice (getting up at 5) for the duration.

This is not going well….. I had a great 3 weeks. I was waking up at 5, getting up at 5.15 and doing exercise for an hour…. Getting loads done, however, I appear to have hurt my knee so I can’t run. And… I have started watching Prison break so it is hard to go to bed at 9…. I feel I am losing control of this one. I must get back on the 5 am wagon.
I started to drift off in front of the TV during the first episode of Heroes in over a month. This means I was exhausted, utterly unable to stay awake because for Heroes I would’ve toughed it out if I could’ve. Thank you to whoever decided Comcast should offer DVR service.
I turned off the TV and just slept right there on my futon… couldn’t even make it to my bedroom. But I woke up at 4:30 this morning and got up around 5:08 feeling fully refreshed.
I have a tendency to always wake up when my alarm goes off, walk across the room, press snooze, climb back in bed and rest until I’m not tired or until it is so late I have to rush to get to work. It is not because I’m lazy, it’s because I’m bone tired and I’m not giving my body enough rest. Waking up early is pretty easy when you feel refreshed.
Well, this is the first day I’ve done this in a long time and it feels like a fluke (completely unplanned). We’ll see how long I can keep this up and what habits will need to change in the process.

Not going so well… I have not been able to get up at 5, just been snoozing. Today I got up at 6.30 which is still pretty early considering I don’t actually have to get up this early. Try again tomorrow. It doesn’t help that it is cold outside of bed at the moment! Try again tomorrow…

I just feel so much less rushed in the day. It really is working well. I think I can keep it up, but I am not going to count this one as done for a while.

I am sure starting this goal after a bout of serious jetlag helped a lot. I want to go to bed early because of it! So far, in the few days I have been doing it, it has had a profound effect on the amount of time I have. I am exercising in the morning, a leisurely breakfast and do somethings for me! Love it…. It is 8.15 now…. I’m tired so I think I’ll head to bed shortly. The Obama inaugration starts at middnight, so I won’t be watching that… I’ll catch up on it later!

I did well, except I was up at 4am because of jetlag.
Can I keep it up?

I find it hard to get balance in my life so I hope that by getting up at that time, I will do somethings for me, such as exercise, have a good breakfast and get ready for the day.
If I can do this for a month 5 days a week, I will review, and then If I can do it for another month, then I will consider than I will have achieved this goal!. Wish me luck!
Could get so much done in the early hours… Need to get to bed earlier. Maybe 10:20
