Well hopefully if I achieve the other goals, this is going to happen anyway.
People always advise ‘be yourself’, which is absolutely wise advice, but sometimes you’re so low, and life is so scary, that you’re not even sure who the real ‘you’ is.
What I would not want to do, is try to be someone I am not, try to make myself into some made-up person to please others, to win friends, to hide my insecurities.
It’s important to know:
what your principles are
your tastes
your priorities
your boundaries (physical, emotional, financial etc)
I’m naturally untidy, but I really dislike my home being untidy, so in fact getting into a habit of being tidy reflects how I want to be – not to please anyone else, but simply to achieve something I want in my life – a tidy home.
There are even characteristics in me I like, but which I’ve probably surpressed to just be the quiet, passive person, to not rock the boat and to avoid being hurt again.
So from today, I want my actions and decisions to be based on the person I really am, not based on fears, insecurities, or guilt. It’s hard to realise that this is how it has been for many years, but at least now I am aiming to do soemthing about it.
If you feel strong, confident and have high self-esteem, you are more likely to be in a position to help others. This is where I eventually want to be.
