I like the idea of having political goals listed, but I’m re-vamping and this just isn’t something I see happening in the US under the current political climate.

How to recapture the word family from the right wing and define to be inclusive of all families
It made me

"I'm pretty sure our culture is moving in this direction at this point, and I'm willing to claim it."
How I did it: Look around us! The Right is crumbling, the Left is ascending. Yay progressive politics. Also, I changed the way I think about and talk about things. Rather than letting the Right and the media define my reality I'm reading progressive history and reclaiming the heritage of the progressive Left.
Lessons & tips: We can all recapture this word right now. There's no one end point we can reach where we'll say, "ah, we've arrived, everything's okay now." We can simply change the way we speak, ourselves, and encourage that way of speaking in our communities. If we can all speak the truth about our families, and use these words with the confidence that we're just as entitled to use them as the Right is, if not drastically more so, then we've attained our goal.

Nothing can ef up you Monday morning coffee than reading this quote from our “President:”
Ages of experience have taught us that the commitment of a husband and wife to love and to serve one another promotes the welfare of children and the stability of society
Falacies! Everywhere! There is NO PROOF of this you moron! Children need love! I’m pretty sure we can all freaking agree that a child is better off in a loving home with two moms or dads, than in a home with an abusive mom or dad. This is just one silly example. And stability in society doesn’t seem to come with discrimination. (I could now go into a whole section about how war is not contributing to the stability of society).
Well, the “president” wants to back a constitutional ban on gay marriage. What a fabulous idea Mr. “President,” to include discrimination in the constitution.
Margeret Cho’s website, Love is Love is Love have some suggestions on how to act against this amendment. Does anyone else know of petitions or the like?

Don’t know how to do this one…but I still get shocked when people I know turn on me in this matter. For instance when I found out gay men are not allowed to donate blood. I told some friends of mine, and they actually said they understood because ‘gays are just more flamboyant and would tend to be more frivolous in their sex lives.’ I am guessing they haven’t come across a lot of ‘gays.’
I thought about deleting this goal because I don’t know how to go about it, but with 5 cheers, and great misconception out there, I’m keeping it. My strategy so far is to speak up every time someone makes a negative comment such as above.
I wonder what other people are doing to make this goal?

For my kids, to make the world a livable place, where they’re free to love to they love. And as an example of how to live a resposible civil life. But how to do it, when they’re young. I took them to demopnstartions when they were young and we were in Portland, unitl it got scary and the cops started pepper spraying babies.
Took them to same sex weddings when we were in portland, only wish i could say the world is still a safer place, a more tolerant place.
