How to live in Arizona
How I did it: While I loved the heat, modernness and cacti, Arizona has a lot of strict and unfair laws and they also tend to favor certain groups of people. It was fun for a while, but in the end I became quite unhappy with the state in general.
Lessons & tips: Don't do it unless you don't mind the heat!

honestly you people who come here to the phoenix area for a few days on vacation during the winter have no clue what its like to live here. first of all were the only state that lets illegal immigrants have a protest march through the state capitol which caused most businesses to be shut down for the day for peoples safety. second most people here have no clue what a good public transportation system is because they’ve never been outside of this state. also the average price of a house here is $250,000. then we also have a problem with illegal immigrants who sneak accross the border between arizona and mexico. we have a ton of people who drive like their drunk. and then theres the heat. dont get me started on the heat.
I lived in Tucson for 2 years while attending grad school. I loved Tucson and Arizona. The weather is extremely hot 4 – 5 months of the year but the remaining months it’s perfect.
There’s great hiking, climbing and riding available in Tucson. I couldn’t live in AZ permanently but I loved my 2 years there.

I’ve never really been there except driving through. The saguaros and dryness and mountains in the backdrop call to me though. I think of an earthy orange-red when I think of Arizona, and warmth, and lazy ceiling fans twirling in a white room with gauzy curtains stirring. Could be synesthesia, that first part, and misconceptions, the rest. I just think I’d like it.
If you can stand the heat in the summer, Arizona is a great place to live. It’s being overdeveloped, which is sad, but I can understand why so many people want to live there. The desert is gorgeous!
