i moved to an apartment, which, despite its many positive attributes, doesn’t have much room for gardens, plus i seem to kill plants now.

...about living in SE Idaho. You could throw a tomato at the ground and you’d harvest tomatoes. Seriously. We had some evergreens growing out front. First week we lived there, some neighbors welcomed us with a bag of garden tomatoes. I never saw them. Some other neighbor kids and my kids found them and threw them at the evergreens. They splatted against the brick behind the shrubbery.
Two years later we tore out those evergreens to put in egress windows, and I’ll be danged if tomatoes didn’t start growing in the newly turned soil!
Now I live in North Idaho and our garden patch is rocky and partially shady. We have figured out how to thwart the deer but still can’t manage to grow tomatoes because of the shade. Brett’s ready to cut down the firs, but the quail roost in them…and I love the quail.
we grow ours in gro-bags and pots (peat-free compost only) on our balcony. Also grow runner beans, herbs, pumkin (1 v small one) and flowers.
