Went to Edgewood County Park, a park near my home. It has some nice trails and open spaces and was easy to get to.
Here’s a picture :) 23 months ago
In the speed in which we travel these days. One can only recognize what is around you at the starting point of the journey and the end destination. The idea here is to see more of what happens or the scenery that is in between these two points… at the speed of a bicycle.
I took my bicycle around San Francisco again yesterday, across from the Mission to the Financial District to South of Market, back to North Beach through Crissy Field and the Presidio down to Ocean Beach and through the Golden Gate Park. I took sometime to breathe in the natural beauty of this park before I head off for Duboce triangle and into a bike shop at 14th and Guerrero to window shop.
This is all out of curiosity and the cost of a couple of dozen of sliced salami, a bottle of water and small olive bread the size of my fist from Acme bread in the ferry building. I got to see a number of small shops and of course a few of my favourite places. On my way back, I stopped by the neighborhood library and a cup of double espresso.
I can only say that there is more to see in this fine city. At a cruising speed of a bicycle, one can only cherish it more. 4 years ago
I live a whole 10 minutes from the technical bay area and feel like i’ve only reached the tip of the iceburge while exploring it, much still needs to be doene. 4 years ago
I skated a good portion of this recently—it’s a great scenic route that covers a lot of distance right through Martinez, Concord, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek but it’s quietly removed from most of the traffic that normally dominates the urban areas. It connects to the Iron Horse trail which is a major North/South route in the east bay too. Someone else did a great writeup of it already:

Turns out I’ve been here ten years and still looking forward to visiting and re-visiting some spots. For example, need to go to Mission Dolores instead of just walking by it. I’ve seen a lot of the other spots Hitchcock made famous. 5 years ago
Hey Check out www.weekendsherpa.com. I just found out about this site and it has cool stuff to do in the bay area every weekend. I’m going to take advantage of this. 5 years ago
I just came back after 11 years and it’s all different. I’m not saying change is a bad thing, I just don’t ever know what exit to take anymore. But I’m so excited to get to know the BA in a different way now. I want to take daytrips everywhere! 5 years ago
live (and breathe) bay area, with almost all of me. completely worth it for every person on earth, to come to the bay and know what’s it like to be in the best possible place. 5 years ago
I’ll close this, as I have lived here all my life, recently I have visited the last few areas, I have not seen. This can take a lifetime and it has, and there is still so much to see. Worth doing.. 5 years ago
North Bay, South Bay, East Bay… oh okay and the Peninsula too.
As far as culture, the tapestry of people in the Bay can’t be beat… same goes for natural beauty. 5 years ago
The bay area has always been such a passion for me. One of my most treasured things is the Eucalyptus Groves dotting the beautiful area. The buzz of the city and all the diversity walking about who wouldnt fall in love? I hope to explore every corner of this amazing area. 5 years ago
You little Doras need to hit up Mi Grullense on E 14-err thats International for all you neophytes- and 30th (if I recall) in the Goodwill parking lot.
Additionally I would recommend visiting the former 6-9 ville on 69thst by coliseum bart and checking out the newly renovated projects in West Oakland, youd think you were in Santa Monica for a hot second.
Oh there is also an a bunch of old train cars and an abandoned train station in the West O by the entrance to the Bay Bridge.. although it could be gone. At any rate, tell the toll plaza I said fuck off!!! 5 years ago
Started doing this when I thought I was only going to live here for a couple of years. Fourteen years later, still plenty to explore and it’s still fun! 5 years ago
I think the best part about living in the bay area is that you can always find something new right around the corner of your house.
When i was little (part of the oakland school district) we went to fairyland pretty often for field trips. It’s a little amusement park that’s located right on Lake Merrit that’s based on fairytales. From Pinochio, peter rabbit, billy goat gruff… they are all there! A big museum, petting zoo, park and playground rolled into one!
A group of us wanted to indulge our inner child and took my 5-year old cousin to Fairyland for an afternoon of fun. Not to mentioned, besides my sister and i, this was everyone’s first visit to fairyland! even tho they have lived in the bay area for most of their childhood!!
It was amazing to see all those relics of my childhoods! The elf blowing bubbles, the alice in wonderland maze…. but The blue whale was closed :( ::sniffle::
We had a great time! But be warned, this is geared toward 0-8 year olds. So all rides (with exception of the train, i think) is limits the rider to be inder 54’’ (i know)
Also, they only admit adults if they are accompaning a child. But it wouldnt be as fun without a little kid to bring you down to their level of innocence ;)
so go… run around, be a kid again! 6 years ago
This was a fun little tour. On Friday the 13th they have special “Flashlight Tours” where they take groups through with the lights off at night and everyone gets a flashlight. I’d never been before and just did this. The whole tour lasted more than an hour, which with the bigs groups they had got a little boring at times. The house was really cool though with all sorts of wierd things like doors that open to a wall, and stairs to the ceiling.

I have a great friend visiting for a few week and hope to do a lot of Bay areaesqe things I’ve been putting aside for years. I have a great list going and will update througout the month. 6 years ago
I’m looking for a new house to rent, but looking at houses for sale are great too. Visiting open houses can be a different way of exploring an area. Driving around to all these different neighborhoods and actually seeing some of the houses, is kinda cool in an offbeat sort of way. It gets you off the main streets into some of the side areas, and you certainly learn where everything is faster. There’s always listings in the sunday paper of what’s open for the weekend, just pick a place you havn’t been yet mapquest a bunch of directions and have at it! 6 years ago
just went there on Saturday. Get there early if you don’t like crowds ‘cause by noon there was hordes of people. The current Hatshepsut exibhit is definitly worth the price of admission (extra $5 on top of $10 for an adult admission) So the museum itself is pretty starkly contrasting to it’s surroundings in Golden Gate Park, but it’s exterior is copper so the idea is that it will oxidise and turn green eventually. Even though there’s lots of empty space, there’s still a ton to see and in 1/2 day we didn’t get through all of it.
Close by is also the Botanical Gardens and a few other things. I think the Tea House is overrated, small and they charge for admission to see some small koi ponds and a gift store. If you go in the last half hour before closing (5:00 I think) they let you in for free.
Down the street is Ocean beach, and some pretty awesome oceanside cliffs.
Close by the park on 9th Ave & Ignacio are lots of restaurants, parking is terrible but if you don’t mind, you can walk most of the way through the park I think. 6 years ago
i lived there for 8 years and there is so mutch culture there i recomend it to anyone. if you visit san fransisco make sure to go to fishermans warf and if you look around you’ll find this place that makes that soup in a bread bowl thing and it’s the best soup ever!! 6 years ago
Using google earth, I explored calaveras road behind Mission Peak. Now, I just need an hour to drive it. 6 years ago
I went to San Mateo for lunch today because my dad really likes the Mongolian Lamb at a restaurant out there. Then we went to the beach at Half Moon Bay, it was very nice. I walked in the sand a little and practiced some Tai Chi, though I’ve forgotten a lot of it. 6 years ago
Walked the boardwalk, camped at Henry Cowell SP and ate dinner at Ciao Bella this weekend. It’s all Bay Area. 6 years ago
It was actually going the wrong direction, but I did get to see more of the city than I usually would. 6 years ago
