too much for 'extra'. 5 months ago

is there such a thing as an extraordinary life?
maybe, maybe not. i think what matters is that you enjoy your life and live it well. if you do that, what more can you ask for?
that’s exactly what i’m going to do. whether it’s ordinary or EXTRAordinary, i don’t know about that, but i plan to live a good life.

After listening to 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People' 11 months ago

I’m making a renewed effort to be clear about exactly what I want out of life. It’s falling into 3 areas mostly.

Being clear about where I what I want will help me get there even if it is one step at a time.

Journey to Ithaca 11 months ago

A poem about living an extraordinary life:

ITHACA
When you start on your journey to Ithaca,
then pray that the road is long,
full of adventure, full of knowledge.
Do not fear the Lestrygonians
and the Cyclopes and the angry Poseidon.
You will never meet such as these on your path,
if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine emotion
touches your body and your spirit.
You will never meet the Lestrygonians,
the Cyclopes and the fierce Poseidon,
if you do not carry them within your soul,
if your soul does not raise them up before you.

Then pray that the road is long.
That the summer mornings are many,
that you will enter ports seen for the first time
with such pleasure, with such joy!
Stop at Phoenician markets,
and purchase fine merchandise,
mother-of-pearl and corals, amber and ebony,
and pleasurable perfumes of all kinds,
buy as many pleasurable perfumes as you can;
visit hosts of Egyptian cities,
to learn and learn from those who have knowledge.

Always keep Ithaca fixed in your mind.
to arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for long years;
and even to anchor at the isle when you are old,
rich with all that you have gained on the way,
not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches.

Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage.
Without her you would never have taken the road.
But she has nothing more to give you.

And if you find her poor, Ithaca has not defrauded you.
With the great wisdom you have gained, with so much experience,
you must surely have understood by then what Ithaca means.

Life's Little Instruction Book 12 months ago

· Have a firm handshake.
· Look people in the eye.
· Sing in the shower.
· Own a great stereo system.
· If in a fight, hit first and hit hard.
· Keep secrets.
· Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen everyday.
· Always accept an outstretched hand.
· Be brave. Even if you’re not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.
· Avoid sarcastic remarks.
· Choose your life’s mate carefully. From this one decision will come 90 per cent of all your happiness or misery.

· Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.
· Lend only those books you never care to see again.
· Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all that they have.
· When playing games with children, let them win.
· Give people a second chance, but not a third.
· Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.
· Loosen up. Relax. Except for rare life-and-death matters, nothing is as important as it first seems.
· Don’t allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It’s there for your convenience, not the caller’s.
· Be a good loser. Be a good winner.
· Think twice before burdening a friend with a secret.
· When someone hugs you, let them be the first to let go.
· Keep it simple. Be modest. A lot was accomplished before you were born.
· Beware of the person who has nothing to lose.
· Don’t burn bridges. You’ll be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river.
· Live your life so that your epitaph could read, No Regrets.
· Be bold and courageous. When you look back on life, you’ll regret the things you didn’t do more than the one’s you did.

· Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them.
· Remember no one makes it alone. Have a grateful heart and be quick to acknowledge those who helped you.
· Take charge of your attitude. Don’t let someone else choose it for you.
· Visit friends and relatives when they are in hospital; you need only stay a few minutes.
· Begin each day with some of your favourite music.
· Once in a while, take the scenic route.
· Send a lot of Valentine cards. Sign them, ‘Someone who thinks you’re terrific.’
· Answer the phone with enthusiasm and energy in your voice.
· Keep a note pad and pencil on your bed-side table. Million-dollar ideas sometimes strike at 3 a.m.
· Show respect for everyone who works for a living, regardless of how trivial their job.
· Send your loved ones flowers. Think of a reason later.
· Make someone’s day by paying the toll for the person in the car behind you.
· Become someone’s hero.
· Count your blessings.
· Compliment the meal when you’re a guest in someone’s home.
· Wave at the children on a school bus.
· Remember that 80 per cent of the success in any job is based on our ability to deal with people.

Don’t expect life to be fair.
