Texas LinWhen my son was 6
he came running up saying he wanted to go home. We were at the Y pool and I thought he was having fun. I asked him why and he pointed at a little girl with darker skin,eyes and hair and said he didn’t want to play with her.
Not knowing where this reaction was coming from I sat him down next to me. For a few minutes we watched all of the children happily taking turns jumping off of the edge of the pool into the cool water.
They seemed to be having alot of fun, laughing and splashing each other. When I spoke I asked him how he would feel if people ran away from him because he had blond hair and blue eyes. I pointed out that we can not change how God made us but what is important is not what a person looks like but who they are inside.
He sat there a few minutes and then ran to play with the other children.
Flash forward 20 years and this same little boy now grown into a fine young man married a beautiful hispanic woman with 3 children that I absolutely adore. Sadly, they divorced and he has remarried but he took to heart our little talk at the pool that day. :)
