The Singapore Biennnale 2006 3 years ago

I am going to the Singapore Biennale today! It was officially launched on the 1 Sept, and is taking place from the 4 Sept to 12 Nov. I want to catch them all before it ends!!

The normal entrance for the museum itself is $5, but it’s free today because of Hari Raya Puasa public holiday! (It’s the end of fasting month of Ramada, based on islamic calender). About 16% of Singaporeans are muslims btw.

And last sat was also FREE because of another public holiday, Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights. (The Indian new year, based on hindu calender)

This Singapore Biennale 2006 stems from the strong belief of marrying visual art with street culture – an intervention of art into public spaces, allowing art to be an integral part of everyday life.

The viewing of the street art is free, thus all the 198 art works were spread throughout the island of Singapore. This event features 93 artistes and from about 38 countries displaying across the 19 different exhibition venues and sites! I heard there are also new artist collective art pieces specially created for this Singapore Biennale!

You could also catch the glimpse of the biennale and the city state’s awesome landscape by downloading the video clip on the right hand side (SB 2006). Or click here.

The16th European Film Festival is here again! 3 years ago

The EU Cultural committee, in cooperation with Singapore Film Society, is proud to announce that 16th European Film Festival is taking place between 13 – 22 October 2006 at VivoCity, Harbourfront, which is our Flag ship cinema, believe to be the best cinema in the world.

The 16th EU Film Festival in Singapore promises a feast of films to satisfy every taste and preference amongst cinema-goers in Singapore.

There will be 27 films to be showcased in the Festival which reflect the diversity and depth of culture and movie-making in the 16 participating EU member countries. The themes for this year include football, history, the coming -of -age of young people, the contrasts between big city and smaller provincial life, contemporary socio-cultural issues and family relationships.

Here is the list of screening schedule (Scroll down all e way to look at the descriptions of all the 27 movies)

Attached a pic of Swedish movie “Four weeks in June” directed by Henry Meyer.(One of the few that I’ll be watching). This film won the Crystal Bear for Best Feature Film at Berlin International Film Festival in February 2006.

P.S. That Czech movie “Subway With Love” (Román Pro Ženy) is the most popular foreign movie here, haha, already sold out with only 1 seat left even though it’s at the last day of the festival.

Too darn hot!! 3 years ago

Went to a dance performance at Suntec City last night called the “Burn the floor”, and was told briefly by my cousin that’s about some hunks dancing. So I said, hey hunks, sounds good, I’m in! :P…And man, it’s not just good, I’m telling you, it is THAT GOOD!

There’s plenty of hunks and babes on the stage, about 30 of them, all over the places, and a very interactive show where they, at times would come down to the ground level and interact and dance with the audiences too!! I have never seen anything like that before in my life!! Really an excellent dance performance that I would called it as a revolutionary dance extravaganza!!

The dancing, costumes, music, and the dancers were all sizzling hot!!..Man, they could really sting your eyes!! You could really feel that you are like almost dancing with them!! All 30 of them have such infectious energy that you could really feel so much passion and heat coming from them and running through onto you body and right through you bones! It’s a mixture and fusion of all kinds of dancing and music-from salsa, tango, latin, jazz, ballroom, ballet, modern, techno, urban street dance, sock-hop, disco, an aka Jessica Simpson “daisy duke” boot dance, another dance no. of aka Britaney Spears wickedly sultry “Slave 4 U”, and even the Amsterdem strip-tease/exotic dance ;) Truly a sensual feast to your eyes and soul!

And the cast were really international, with hunks and babes dancers from AUSTRALIA, U.S.A(california), GERMANY, ITALY, ENGLAND, SWEDEN, and NORWAY.

They are now doing a World Tour starting with Asia first, to TAIWAN, SINGAPORE, SOUTH KOREA and then JAPAN…Thereafter will be hitting to AUSTRALIA and U.S.A. sometimes in June this year!

We loved this performance so much that we both bought their soundtrack and can now reminisce the very same moment all over again!!

Go watch this performance if they do come to your area. It’s an evening reminiscent of excitement, fun, happier and romantic times, not to be missed!!
