I am going to the Singapore Biennale today! It was officially launched on the 1 Sept, and is taking place from the 4 Sept to 12 Nov. I want to catch them all before it ends!!
The normal entrance for the museum itself is $5, but it’s free today because of Hari Raya Puasa public holiday! (It’s the end of fasting month of Ramada, based on islamic calender). About 16% of Singaporeans are muslims btw.
And last sat was also FREE because of another public holiday, Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights. (The Indian new year, based on hindu calender)
This Singapore Biennale 2006 stems from the strong belief of marrying visual art with street culture – an intervention of art into public spaces, allowing art to be an integral part of everyday life.
The viewing of the street art is free, thus all the 198 art works were spread throughout the island of Singapore. This event features 93 artistes and from about 38 countries displaying across the 19 different exhibition venues and sites! I heard there are also new artist collective art pieces specially created for this Singapore Biennale!
You could also catch the glimpse of the biennale and the city state’s awesome landscape by downloading the video clip on the right hand side (SB 2006). Or click here.
