Ethiopian food is completely delicious. Plus you can’t beat eating with your fingers!
How to try Ethiopian food
How I did it: As a vegan, I got the vegitarian combo. It comes out on a large platter that have the sour flat bread on it with mounds of different dishes on the bread. They also give you a bowl of more sour bread. You eat with your hands, using the bread to scoop food off the plate. It is so tasty.
Lessons & tips: Don't go when you are starving. Every restaurant I've been too takes at least 45 mins to bring you your food. Sometimes they will have a buffet, but otherwise, go when you are just a little hungry so you'll be really hungry by the time the food gets there.

Sorry but I’m not a fan of Ethiopian food. Maybe it’s because I actually ate it in Ethiopia. All I remember is being served a huge bowl of intestines, still coated in bile. Along with grey colored bread that smelled and tasted like vinegar. I struggled to get any of it down. I really enjoyed visiting the country of Ethiopia. The people and landscapes were amazing….but the food, no thanks.

One of the collectively hungriest countries in the world,
and in Perth, WA, Australia, There is aEthiopian “Cusine” restaurant called Mebos Cafe.
Who came up with that idea?
Are we going to feed off grubs and maize meal?
Still, curiosity has the better of me.
I’ll have to go one day!
The trick is to use the bread to pick up the food without getting overstuffed on the bread, and without having to suck on your fingers. It takes a few tries but yummm does it pay off!
The Berbere options have a little kick of slow heat spice to them, so beware! Great veggie options!
Thanks to a friend of the family, I can happily tick this one off my list. The name of the dish escapes me, but it was devine! Mince, spices, sultanas and almonds baked with an eggy top and bay leaves, served with rice and her home made chutney. Elsa, you are a champ!
I’m a big fan of Ethiopian cuisine—I’ve even had Ethiopian food in Ethiopia! Go with someone who can guide you through the menu and explain injera to you… If you’re going for the first time, I suggest that you get a platter with a variety of small dishes. So delicious! If you haven’t done this, you should…
