jamelle is settin' it up to knock it down!
I signed up for classes but didn’t go…. I bought a book and a kit from borders…have yet to read it
How I did it: I signed up for a four-week course at a local arts & crafts supply. There are four courses in all, but even after completing just the first course you can make some great-looking cakes.
I enjoyed it so much, I have continued taking classes.

AhimsaBabe is doing quite well today, thanks.
I’m an awesome baker, but my cake decorating skills are amateurish mostly due to a) lack of practice and b) essential tremor in my hands. I’ve studied books about cake decorating but that’s kind of like reading about music. So I’d like to take a good class in the basics sometime. I may try and do that this summer via the UT Informal Class structure or find a class through one of the baking shops here in town.
I have my third class of Wilton Course 2 tonight! I am looking foward to learning how to make new flowers! :)
Last weekend I made a cake for my Pastor’s 29th anniversary. It was my first sheet cake – a little lopsided on one corner but pretty good overall! I got many compliments on it.
I also made a couple of cakes for my sister when she came down to visit. I have been enjoying the practice … and I’m looking forward to the holidays!
I’ll post some photos soon!
Finished Wilton Course 1 last night. My final project was a rose bouquet cake.
I may not be a master decorator, but I can at least decorate a decent cake. It’s very satisfying to know that I can cross this off my list!
I had so much fun and have received so much encouragement that I start Course 2 next week!
My first job was when I was 18 and I was hired at a bakery as a part time cake decorator. My manager was amazing and I fell in love with my work. She moved on to a higher job title elsewhere and I was left as Head Cake Decorator 6 months later. I absolutley loved it. Unfortunatly it was a small bakery inside of a grocery store with poor managment and staff, poor pay and hours. I eventually put my notice in and regreted my decision shortly after. I would love nothing more than to get back in the business.
I’m taking the Wilton Course 1 decorating class at Hobby Lobby. My first assignment is done. It was a little frustrating to complete due to uncontrollable cirmcumstances (widespread power outage due to Ike, which left me the night before class to get the cake prepped). However, it didn’t turn out looking too bad.
I sent the final product to work with my husband and he and his coworkers devoured it. I got nothing but compliments and now look forward to assignment #2, which I’ll prep this weekend.
BTW, my hubby is already telling me I should sign up for Course 2. He says he likes this new hobby! LOL! :)
I did it—took the class and realized I didn’t like cake decor as much as I had thought I would. But I’m glad I took the class anyhow; at least I can say I’ve done it. May as well give as many things a try as I can. Life is short.
ImUrHoneyBee is 30, flirty and loving it!
I was looking around online and i found that the Southbank Tafe has a cup cake Decorating course for $125. It goes for 4 hours on a Saturday Morning, even i am sure i can fit that in and the price is pretty good! If you are interested check this out.
This was a very rewarding experience. I can now do some amazing things. It is time consuming, but definetly worth the effort.

I am going to call Michaels tomorrow to find out when the next cake making class will be. I really want to do this. I was actually thinking that perhaps if I got good at it, I could make my own cake for my wedding in October. Wish me luck!!!
