This is the part about being an artist that I find the most daunting: setting aside a certain amount of works that you think will sell you as an artist. I find the task so ominous that it’s hard to even start, but I have to finish it sometime if I ever want a decent job.

I’ve gotten the first phase of two projects just about wrapped up. So I’m calling it done, even though I’d like to continue to add to it.

I have one project well on its way, a redesign of the website for the shop I used to work at. I uploaded the first iteration just this evening. There still is more work to do, but the first phase is complete.

in the works

I’ve got a few websites in the works now. One site should be ready to launch by the end of the month. It feels like a slow process, but I’ve just got to add to my portfolio one project at a time.

While I still don’t have anything printed up nicely, I have been organizing pieces and adding them to my website which means at least I have some sort of online portfolio. There’s only about a dozen examples so far, but as I get more, I can add them, and now that it’s somewhat organized, the adding bit is easier too.
It’s nothing fancy, but hey, it’s something!

I’ve got a few projects that I’ve got to get working on. I’ll be so glad I did, for so many reasons.

I’ve started working on a few small projects here and there, so once I have access to a good printer, I’ll have to print them out and stick them in a binder.
I’ve also (hopefully) started working a second job that makes much better use of my design skills, so I should have more pieces to pull and save for my portfolio soon.

Since I’ve been looking for CG work, I realize I need a serious portfolio of my work. The excuse of most of my hard copies and actual files being destroyed doesn’t last forever- they do expect you to replace that work and have something to show for it. So some day soon, a portfolio of 4 to 8 examples of each of the following types of work- general print, sketches, business cards, web design, logos, and illustration.
