I win at this. I am lucky, because living in California means year-round farmer’s markets filled with love.
I can’t wait until berry season. Jams galore for all who know me!
i gave up artifical flavor for lent. i figured this would drastically cut down on the amount of junk i eat. next step, no more HFCS. .
i also picked a day to regularly go to the produce stand or farmer’s market.

A trip to Trader Joe’s this afternoon proved to be an eye-opening experience. Much of their produce comes from California, but a lot of the frozen and packaged items don’t even come from within the country! I knew this already in the back of my mind, but I never bothered to check where each item came from until today. I came out of the store with much less than I usually do. I let myself have one splurge – blood orange juice from Italy. I’m not about cutting everything non-local out of my diet, but moderation is a good principle to follow here.

Farmer’s Market today! I get way too excited about vegetables.
Read this interesting article in this week Time magazine. “Forget Organic. Eat Local” March 17 http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1595245,00.html
I think that you should read it and see what you think. I for one would rather have organic then local food with chemicals on it yet I would very much love to support my local farmers and eat fresh produce. All and all got some good information from the article and links that are new to me thru more recent research.
