Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

It’s been a while ago, I made a rough layout of chapters and started chapter 1.
I am going trough the literature I selected for proposal to stay focused. I also have found creative commons ilustrations.
I will play with tags in Mendeley to keep track of things. 5 months ago

It’s been 4 months that I wish I made this a habit.
I am in such an awe of my chosen field it is not sane.
Sometimes I trick myself into doing something. So in the mean time:
  1. I contacted 2 prospective mentors
  2. talking to main head I realised I’m on my own so there is nothing to wait, I can start doing everything right now
  3. attended PhD defense of my colegue and I am so glad for him. It was inspirational.
  4. wrote a part of one intro chapter day of two
  5. started to design an experiment and started the program once
  6. said hi to girls in the lab and announced that I am coming soon
    Now I can see a pattern, and that is I chicken out every time, and if I do something, it is in such a workaholic way that it couldn’t last very long.

So next time when I chicken out I need to become aware of that, instead of diverting my attention to something else. I need to feel what it is. Than I want to start working but not panicking but simply working. EFT would help greatly. I need to put diagram points into Mendeley under “tools”.
I simply need to build this habit. It is a lifestyle change. I need not make such a big deal out of it but simply do it daily. I need to set a regular time each day and make it happen. Sweet Jesus!! Help me.
Habits can’t be changed at level of habits. It is so much deeper than that. It is about deserving. I believe this is luxury. Like I need to change something first, in order to deserve. In reality there is nothing to do to deserve other than being born. I need to learn to appretiate luxury and make it integral part of life, cus life is luxury. I need to realise and feel that.

I can do this. One step at the time.

Now instead of beating myself for being so stupid for doing so litle and months and years passed by (yet another way to paralyse myself), I nead to figure this out and focus on positive. And positive is everything that brought me to this very moment.
  1. All exams passed, literature gathered and organised in Mendeley ~ now I only need to study it and write
  2. have e-prime on this PC so I can play with it until it is ready to go to lab
  3. synopsis proposal already submitted ~ now I want to go deeper to prepare better
  4. Gained access to lab ~ now I only need to go there and start playing 6 months ago

ladybirdMy desire and vision for my scientific self

I am dedicated to my work.
I study every day, read and write and think about that fascinating subject.
I treat myself with latest books and reading about recent discoveries.
I meet teachers and fellow students and we enjoy each others company and support.
I conduct experiments with ease.
I use lab equipment on regular basis and learn to use it easily.
I fully accept me being a scientist, and fully enjoy it, and wanderfull fruits of it. 9 months ago


ladybirdMendeley works, at last!

Now it is fully recovered, I had issues and support people were realy supportive. I enjoyed browsing and sorting and tuning and all other stuff that appears as work, but in fact it is not.
I count this as warming up, though.

Next, I want to:
  1. make a small experiment in E-prime
  2. go to lab and record that on myself
  3. make a stimulus for pilot
  4. make pilot experiment in E-prime

I just called AB that I will use small equipment next week. It has its own small Analyser. There are some people there until the end of month so I need to see with them when they will not use it. 9 months ago

ladybirdRenamed from "study hard" to "Study every day"

In order to be more specific.
Besides, I don’t want it to be hard, I want to study with ease. It sounded cool, though.
I want to be in contact every day with material, be it reading papers or writing, or doing flash cards. Oh, that reminds me to create more of them. And keep papers in my backpack. (I hope to purchase e-reader that works with Mendeley.)
Now I want to concentrate on those books/papers that I listed as references, I want to really get familiar with them. And the best way to do it is to start writing. 10 months ago
