I’m not a very good dancer, not graceful, not lithe, but my mother was patient and ran me through the basics. That’s all I needed to get my confidence going, and to be able to learn the tango and other ballroom dances. It’s fun, and once a person starts, it’s footwork that one can never forget. Sure, you might not remember all the steps to the tango, but after learning how to waltz, without thinking, your feet will always go “1-2-3, 1-2-3”.
How to learn how to waltz
How I did it: The basics and getting the rhythm were the hardest part, but after that, I began to have more fun. Its like riding a bike, once you learn the fundamentals, your feet will remember the 3-step move.
My mother taught me because she's been dancing forever, and after having her waving a classical cd around, I gave in and practiced. :D
Lessons & tips: Learning how to do a ballroom dance just fills you with this anticipating that any future social event will just be that much easier. A lot of people don't know how to dance, or even how to fake it, so even though you might not have the prettiest dress, or the most expensive tuxedo, knowing how to dance will give you an edge.
Resources: a classical cd with a very rigid waltz on it, or tv. Just watch professionals do it, and sometimes it just clicks.

Since I started swing dancing I’ve wanted to learn to waltz/ballroom dance. It wouldn’t have to be anything fancy. I just enjoy learning different dances.
Lethe2779 Is Running Through A Flower Maze.
I wanted to do this since I saw a dancintg competition on channel 11 or PBS. It looked so cool but yes I know they’re professionals, yes I have no experience, but will I eventually dip my husband at my wedding,YEs>
Ok, so I found this video about waltzing (http://www.monkeysee.com/play/1401-how-to-waltz) and it helped, but how do I take practice skills and turn them into actual moves on the dance floor (that don’t make me trip into the band)?
I want to waltz, on a hardwood dance floor with beautiful lighting and an orchestra playing the music. This I’ve always dreamed about since I was a little girl. Does anyone know where I can take lessons in NYC?
Would greatly appreciate it…

Despite my lack of time, I started a ballroom dancing class where we’ll be learning the waltz, rumba and cha cha. The waltz is the hardest dance of the three and my teacher decided to start with it first (We rotate through three of the dances in a two hour period); so I’m happy to say that I got better as the night went on :) More details very soon when I have more time.
My husband and I took dancing lessons to learn how to dance for our wedding reception and it was really worth the money. We looked great out on the dance floor and we even got a dance choreographed for our first song. It gave us both more confidence knowing that all eyes were on us and we looked like pros.
I have been ballroom dancing for about 6 months now. One of my favourites is the waltz. You can either stay to the school standards or free-style. I enjoy free-styling the most, it allows you to move the way you feel. With some classical pieces you can really get lost in the moment and literally become one with the music. Dancing with the a great dance partner also helps you loose yourself. It’s quite an experience, and so much fun too do. Learn the basics, everything else follows. 1,2,3. 1,2,3. 1,2,3. 1,2,3. .... A great way to meet and make terrific friends.
