cocokang is doin small thngs tuh mke da wrrld a betta place
Hi. I’m a sophomore in high school in NY. And my homeroom is the social justice homeroom. Since the school year just, we have not some much, but we have been planning. We want to do some fundraising of course, trying to get the word out about these issues.
We have already visited the United Nations and are trying to plan trips to Washington D.C. and such. Our teacher has introduced us to some great sites such as freethechildren.com and giveyour10.com that give us ways to help people that are facing social justice issues such as child labor and human trafficking, women and children’s negligence of education, health care, etc.
I was wondering what people from other parts of the world are doing. All replies are welcome.

穷则独善其身,达则兼济天下。
In other worlds: if I remain in a small position, I will do little things to help the planet, by recycling and not consuming much, etc; if I become financially independent or reach an important position, I can do bigger philanthropic things.

A while ago Google canceled it’s search engine agreement with dreamer.me which takes money form Google’s Adwords program and gives it to charity. So I’m trying to get people to sign the pension at: http://dreamer.me/google-dont-be-evil#petition

People must be: more Kind, more Trustworthy, more Helpful, and more caring. If everybody was the world would be such a better place.

I use http://dreamer.me to save the world. My searches give money to charity, and I don’t have to do anything special (which I like, because I’m a little bit lazy).. hey it’s a start!

I’ve often had the idea that I could maybe save the world. Maybe it’s due to an enlightened childhood, a sense of public responsibility, or some delusional sense of grandeur. I can’t really totally pin it, but I just feel like there are so many ways a single person can help.
I suppose the real challenge in it is associating value with such a thing and accepting the level of energy required for the work needed. Also, the problem of knowing what exactly would save the world and does it even need saving? The world was like this when you came into it, and it could easily be the same when you leave, who knows?
There are a few major things that seem to be wrong with the world. One is all the cars. Why are there are so many cars? Noisy, dangerous, sprawl-creating, and polluting us to death. It’s not really clear what the solution is yet. So what needs to happen? Bicycles, trains, horses, more walking? Maybe all of the above. I think with more conscious urban planning and re-design around the world we could live in a better world. I will probably continue to think about this.
Another major problem seems to be a major cultural deprivation since the 20th century. All this ugly advertising and fear-mongering consumerism is tearing society apart at every level. This could be mostly an American problem, but globalization is contributing. We need to start looking at our culture in a more democratic but intelligent way, so that we don’t trap ourselves in a never-ending plague of psychotic inducing media.
To add on to this, our laissez-faire capitalism in America seems to just be leading to lots of monopolies with poor ethics and ugly facilities. There should really be a law against big ugly stupid companies. Or at the very least, require them to have more aesthetically themed presence instead of box stores with light up plastic signs and polo uniforms. Luckily we can choose not to support them if they annoy us, right? Well, maybe if you’re rich.
This is all I’m going to cover right now. I want to touch on art and spirituality a bit more too, but that will have to wait. I figure if there weren’t as many people to begin with we might not have as many problems, but here we all are. I could be wrong though. 6 billion minds are better than one maybe? Hopefully.

I want to dedicate my life to saving the world. I believe that if every individual that gave a shit about the world came together, and rose together as a collective force, to speak on behalf of those who don’t have a voice, then the world could be a beautiful place. Saved from human trafficking, child soldiery, water privatization, famine, hunger, inhumane torture, racism, sexism, every ism in the world, oppression, and ignorance. The time to act is now!
