In lieu of finding true romance, I’ve been planing these elaborate romantic dates (well not always but sometimes I do that).
I figure it says something that I’m willing to put in that much effort but if I’m gonna be honest about this I get as much if not more out of those than the date does (a story if nothing else ;) ).
A while back I got to be part of someone else’s fantasy date. She asked me to meet her somewhere and planned it from there. I did nothing (didn’t even bring a bottle of wine to it).
I had a great time picnicking underneath the stars, in the middle of this park in a housing complex. This counts as a roadside picnic cause the entire grass structure was surrounded by roads (to drive to the houses). Time to time we’d have the headlights from cars shine brightly in our eyes but we were centrally located so it didn’t interrupt as much.
Spent the night with me telling stories and she working out her life story (at a later date she said my advice helped).
Can’t name names but I figure she reads my 43things postings so let me say it here, Thanks, I had a great time and its a memory I’ll keep for a long while.

On one side was the river shown in the picture and the other the road, with cars passing by but not close enough to interrupt conversation.
Between us and the road was a bicycle path and my date caught the attention of all passing by.
I love that she was up for this (especially cause this was our first meeting) and we had a great time.
It was totally worth doing.

I was walking down the bicycle path (picture attached) towards Roosevelt Island in Arlington VA (near the Rossalyn Metro Station) and found a perfect place for a roadside picnic.
Its got trees a solid grass filled patch and I believe its public land so there should be no problem picnicing there.
Only thing missing…. Well I need someone to picnic with, working on that.

Okay so it wasn’t exactly on the side of the road, It was more like this incomplete overpass so that driving cars would have had to look up to see us and we could look down on the passing cars without worrying about them hitting us.
Still it was neat and I’d love to do it again maybe this time on the same level with the cars for the added risk :)
