I am getting better at this. I’ve created a to do list (which does not include Facebook:P) and I’ve been sticking to it pretty well.
People doing this are also doing these things:
Entries

Daily lists

Started this goal 2 weeks ago with this:
MWF Mornings for 10 min. – 1 hour: Documentation- I have a list of all screens and go down the list each time
- Check help files & make sure they are updated for that screen
- Check comments on code at top of page and throughout for accuracy. (code changes so fast and comment get forgotten a lot at my workplace.)
- Check wiki comments and make sure they are up to date.
- I have a list from Mantis of all bugs assigned to me
- Work on bug fix until timer goes off. Document how far I got and comment out changed code if not done with instructions on how to finish.
- Same list as documentation
- Do only one page at a session and run company required tests.
- Fix any errors and document.
- Look for optimizations that can be made.
- I have a list of features that in meetings have been listed as desireables, but 2 people on the project doesn’t give the time allowed to do it.
- Work on one feature on my local server until ready to transfer over. Keep code seperate! (learned this the hard way once)
I also have a list that stays at about 13 entries for things to be changed/fixed/added. I have found that if I write a todo list with the above included for the next day I am super productive and get a lot done. Other days like today when I forgot the todo list, I do things like post on 43 things…I’m writing a todo list now for when I get back from lunch!
Maybe this goal should have been write a nightly todo list for work?
