A friend of a friend has season tickets and so I went to two games at Old Trafford.
One was Man-U vs Fulham, the other was a friendly international England vs Denmark.
The Man-U game was tense. I think Fulham scored the first goal, but Wayne Rooney (Roooney! Roooney! – the ugly muppet) quickly answered with a goal of his own. But then Fulham score two more goals in the second half. I think it was the first home defeat that season.
The England Denmark game went a similar way. So since then I think I’ve been tainted with the ‘Every time we invite Dave the kiwi, our team loses’ brush… So I’ve not been back since.
I enjoyed watching Beckham play at old Trafford, but really enjoyed seeing him play with Real Madrid at Bernabeau stadium last year.
But the atmosphere in Old Trafford was absolutely incredible. The chants, the songs. Just amazing. Everywhere here in Europe is like that. ABs vs Scotland at Murrayfield was equally brilliant. Hearing the flower of scotland sung by tens of thousands of fans sends shivers up my spine. New Zealanders don’t have anything of the sort. (excluding the haka, which is cool, but not exactly something you can sing from the sideline)
